The Office of Communication & Marketing at the State University of New York at New Paltz seeks candidates for the position of Videographer/Content Creator. Among its many responsibilities, the Office of Communication & Marketing increasingly produces and publishes video content across multiple platforms to communicate the value of SUNY New Paltz to various constituent groups. Under the supervision of the Director of Digital Media, the Videographer/Content Creator supports the University's communication and marketing initiatives across all media platforms and provides the creative talent and strategic expertise needed to advance the brand and reputation of SUNY New Paltz locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. This position will require availability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
The ideal candidate will join a dynamic and creative team who consistently demonstrate a can-do attitude and a collaborative working style. This position is expected to bring technical and editorial video experience and expertise to the role. They will support all aspects of video production from concept to completion, including storyboarding, scripting, directing, interviewing, lighting, videography and editing, post-production, exporting and posting to YouTube, social media and/or other video platforms. The Videographer/Content Creator is expected to maintain and update creative and technical skills to build knowledge of trends, best practices and regulations in the field, including alternative video capture methods such as aerial photography. The successful candidate will develop and promote best practices for video production across campus and advise content creators on how that work is publicly displayed, including:
Help develop and support a video style guide outlining best practices for video production of any scope at SUNY New Paltz
Coordinate and collaborate with other video producers working on behalf of SUNY New Paltz for creative use of shared assets.
Assist in maintaining an appropriate structure for the flow of content internally and externally via websites and social media platforms.
The Videographer/Content Creator will be called upon to respond quickly to produce content in emergency situations, troubleshoot in ever-changing conditions and resolve technical difficulties as they arise. They will be an important voice in project planning and prioritize production work and other projects tied to institutionally significant communication. Additional responsibilities for multimedia content creation, photography and website design or other duties as assigned by the Director of Digital Media, Vice President of Communication or the President of SUNY New Paltz are expected. Applicants must be prepared to lift up to 35 lbs.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
Produce, from blank slate to finished product, unique, original content highlighting student, faculty and alumni achievements for both undergraduate and graduate programs, campus events and successful learning/leadership outcomes in alignment with marketing goals.
Work with the Director of Digital Media and Office of Communication & Marketing Editorial Board to identify key areas for content creation and curation.
Propose ideas for video content to encourage audience engagement appropriate for various platforms and user experiences.
Film specific events and programs both on and off campus to create narrative videos that reflect the mission, values, goals and objectives of SUNY New Paltz.
Work with the Office of the President's staff to coordinate video addressed from the College President.
Collaborate with stakeholders and clients to ensure that messaging, positioning and branding is consistent throughout all assigned projects and initiatives.
Coordinate all technical and logistical aspects of video production, from location scouting and setup to coordinating interviews and other shoots with interview subjects.
Contribute to the maintenance of a productive, organized and professional video operation for the University's YouTube channel.
Organize and maintain the College's internal video asset library, including legacy assets
Collaborate with the Social Media Team and Assistant Director of Marketing & Social Mediato develop engaging content to grow SUNY New Paltz's organic (unpaid) social media presence, especially on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Support the University's paid advertising efforts and collaborate with Communication & Marketing colleagues to produce video ads to support undergraduate and graduate recruitment and other marketing priorities.
Attend relevant meetings and keep current on best practices and trends through professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
Required:
Computer proficiency on both Macintosh and PC platforms.
Valid driver's license
Proficiency in film and sound editing, lighting, cinematography and interviewing
Proficiency with Canon DSLR and mirrorless cameras (video and still) as well as phones, and Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere and After Effects
Familiarity and ability to purchase and know rights and permissions surrounding outside music and video usage
Microsoft Office Suite
Good interpersonal skills
Works well on project teams
Good grammar and writing skills
Preferred:
Two or more years of videographer/content creator experience preferred.
FAA commercial drone certification a plus.
Experience producing motion graphics a plus
