Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Graphic Designer to perform graphic design, illustration and related tasks in support of College programs, instruction, marketing and public relations. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for general design and layout of printed materials, branded materials, advertisements (digital and printed), online newsletters, digital displays, marketing tools, social media platforms, web designs, video and related supplies. They will also help manage and create content for the College’s social media platforms and digital software systems. This position reports to the Director for Marketing & Communications.

Primary Responsibilities
Conceptualize, design and produce graphic projects such as publications banners, brochures, posters, signs, booklets, educational information, online materials, logos, advertisements, maps, Internet materials, drawings, displays, PowerPoint presentations and other materials;
Operate both Mac and PC computer platforms using Adobe Creative Cloud software and other equipment such as printers;
Illustrate images, text, graphics and animation using a variety of methods including freehand, digital pads and stylus pens;
Select colors, images and typeface; determine placement of images and text on print or webpage;
Consult and work with College employees on the effective use of graphic designs and production costs; offer ideas, suggestions and information on techniques and content as it pertains to getting communications reproduced; provide guidance on mailing list preparation;
Design informational materials, considering intended use, audience, cost estimates, distribution and the project's and department's goals and objectives;
Produce and package complex, computer-generated multi-page art for black and white, and color reproduction, using graphic design software Adobe Creative Cloud for page layout, illustration, and photo manipulation;
Accomplish typographic compositions, conversions and manipulations of photographs and illustrations, using computer software and materials;
Prepare parallel projections and illustrations from verbal instructions, consultations with clients, and, samples and specimens, using other reference materials as necessary;
Operate a variety of office printers including standard color printers and larger-format plotters;
Provide detailed written, online or other instructions to printer vendors for a variety of reproduction elements, including paper stock, ink, folding, scoring, embossing, mailing lists, distribution, variable printing, and engraving and binding techniques;
Ensure compliance with design standards, logo usage and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, as well as other applicable laws and regulations;
Select most appropriate techniques and materials available within the project budget;
Make Department purchases using p-card and reconcile statements on a monthly basis;
Maintain inventory of materials, generate requisitions and order supplies in support of Graphics & Printing Department;
Occasional use of digital cameras for taking photos of staff, students and/or college events; download and retouch digital images for projects;
Complete finishing work such as cutting, mounting, folding and similar activities;
Use digital software to receive changes and approval from customer and Marketing Director before sending to printer or publishing digital content;
Serve as a liaison with translation teams to translate copy into other languages;
Assist with video planning activities including research, script development, storyboard illustration, titles and audio editing; provides control room and camera operation assistance;
Assist with sizing, uploading and inserting imagery onto the college website;
Collaborate with college staff to modify website design as needed; be familiar with web content management systems; be familiar with html coding;
Create and post content on College’s social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Twitter);
Create and manage content on College’s digital software systems, including the outdoor reader board and tv displays;
Work with other Printing, Graphic Design and Marketing staff to accomplish tasks;
Effectively operate within an Apple Mac computing environment; and
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Two (2) years of college-level training in graphic arts, illustration, drafting or closely related field;
One (1) year of graphic design experience;
Familiarity with printing processes, including offset printing, plate making, process color reproductions, digital imaging and digital output;
Advanced skills working with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign;
Experience designing digital materials for web and print marketing campaigns; and
Portfolio of your work including three (3) print and three (3) digital examples*.
