DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Staff Human Resources (SHR) is dedicated to building a strong and healthy university by propelling the university mission, engaging and developing people, empowering our campus partners, building trust and teamwork and providing excellent Human Resource services.
SHR is responsible for providing leadership to the campus and Staff Human resources (SHR), in the areas of Benefits, Business Administration, Compensation/Classification, Employee & Labor Relations, HR Business systems, Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition and Operations. Employee & Labor Relations serves as a professional resource to managers, supervisors and employees for work related issues, serves as a liaison to campus labor unions, and represents the campus in employment matters.
Under the general direction of the ELR Director or designee, the Employee Relations Manager oversees and provides leadership to the Employee Relations (ER) team, provides expert analysis, consultation, coaching and training to campus clients on organizational development, strategic planning, policy and regulatory compliance, interpretation and application of labor contracts, and resolution of workplace problems. Works collaboratively and establishes highly effective working relationships with clients, campus constituents, and union representatives. Successfully provides supervision to individual contributors and an ER supervisor to grow and develop staff. Provide campus advocacy and representation on employee and/or labor relations matters. Provide supervision, leadership and guidance to Employee Relations Analysts team members, support staff, and student staff where appropriate.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Salary Information: Salary Range: $114,250 - $120,000/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Work in a highly collaborative manner with all members at the management level, others across the organization, and external contacts of significance, to advise on employee relations matters relating to highly complex individual and organization-wide issues and is independently responsible for appropriate courses of action in developing, interpreting and administering HR programs.
Work effectively with people from diverse cultures on such issues as performance management, organizational changes, and workplace climate, and other related issues.
Anticipate future needs, challenges and opportunities, and collaborate with the ELR Director on long range planning. Leverage knowledge and expertise in HR best practices and legal environment to collaborate and proactively contribute to the development, continuous improvement and implementation of policies, procedures, workflow, programs, and other HR initiatives.
Provide input on performance, salary actions, disciplinary actions, coaching, counseling and other human resources related issues.
Recognize issues that have campus impact or future implications and advise the ELR Director appropriately. Accept changes in priorities and communicate those changes effectively to assigned staff members.
Lead by example to identify opportunities and work to improve processes, apply innovation, and serve as a leader or subject matter expert on projects focused on process or program improvements.
Work with legal representatives, as appropriate, to effectively deal with possible conflicts.
35% - MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP and STRATEGIC PLANNING
Lead, manage and supervise individual contributors and an employee relations lead who provide strategic, consultative and transactional human resources services to the campus community in the areas of Employee Relations and Leave Management, in compliance with state and federal regulations, and applicable policies, collective bargaining agreements procedures and benefit programs.
Effectively manages and guides assigned staff, including developing individuals and providing cross training.
Assist in the selection, development and evaluation of personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience and / or training.
Maintains effective professional relationships with campus department managers as well as other managers in Human Resources
Excellent management skills with the ability to guide, mentor and develop staff
Provides written analyses, recommendations and oral presentations to management
Maintains a thorough understanding of the goals of the campus and ways in which this position can support those goals
Advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organizational and problem-solving skills

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
