The UCPath Center is the University of California's shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Program Management, this Senior Project Manager is required to lead multiple and simultaneous medium to highly complex, campus wide, medical center or Office of the President institution wide project initiatives.
This role will be required to manage approved UCOP or UCPath roadmap and prioritized project initiatives as well as be viewed as an expert as it relates to industry standard project management methodologies, processes, and techniques.
Also recognized as subject matter expert relating to PeopleSoft Update Manager PUM), Open Enrollment activities, financial system retrofits, in addition to coordination of major project deliverables leading up to and through cut-over activities.
Provides Executive and Senior Leadership with project or portfolio updates via status reports clearly identifying progress against plan or robust presentation decks.
Responsibilities
50% Utilizes project management techniques and methodologies such as Traditional Waterfall, Agile, or a hybrid approach to lead and manage approved roadmap of projects supporting UCPath campuses, medical centers, or Office of the President.
Leads multiple medium to large complex projects simultaneously that are of significant criticality to UCPath, campuses, medical centers, or Office of the President.
Oversees all project activities from initiation through delivery including coordination of requirements gathering, development, systems integration, UAT, environment access, security, communications, training, implementation, and post implementation.
40% Independently leads project team to define project deliverables, plan, milestones, and schedule through to project execution.
Required to monitor, track, and control critical path deliverables as well as documenting project status in project management system of record.
Effectively manages project risks, issues and dependencies by developing the necessary mitigation strategies for resolution and control.
Ability to effectively delegate project tasks to project resources or other Project Managers to ensure project goals, objectives, and deliverables are met.
Must effectively communicate project status and progress to different audiences and stakeholders while ensuring level of detail provided is commensurate with target audiences.
Develop project stakeholder communication plan verifying project stakeholder checklist while establishing cadence for engagement, collaboration, project status reporting, and escalation process.
Develop and execute communication strategy in order to provide executive level portfolio/project status to Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership across UCPath, campus, medical centers, Technology, or Office of the President stakeholders.
Engages all project stakeholders at campus, locations, and internal UCPath teams to identify key resources needed on project while facilitating and coordinating project activities related to scope definition, requirements traceability, through delivery.
Updates team project management tool system of record with ensuring current information related to project scope definition, problem statement, location engagement, business case ROI, business drivers, financial, critical milestones, key milestones, dependent projects, risks, issues, defects, testing activities, project teams, and associated tickets.
Holds stakeholders accountable for decision making in a timely manner that ensures project deliverables remains on track.
Pushes and drives project team to ensure timeliness of meeting critical path project deadlines.
Obtains approval to critical project artifacts and stores on designated SharePoint or Box locations.
10% May be tasked with mentoring junior project management team members to provide guidance on organizational project management policy and procedures.
May be tasked with supporting other PMs on their assigned projects and/or taking over struggling projects from PMs that are not managing to plan.
Recognized as role model for junior project team members for expertise in being able to manage multiple simultaneous highly visible critical projects.
Required Qualifications
10 years of related experience and/or Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred Qualifications
Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies. Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated effective writing skills.
Broad knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
Proven leadership ability. Effective problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques. Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress. Understands the cost impact of projects, project tracking tools and metrics.
Experienced mentor and leader of teams with experience leading a team of technology professionals.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations and disaster recovery.
Has a thorough understanding of how programs relate to other business strategies and initiatives. Demonstrated ability to integrate critical information cross disciplines.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with executive-level management on a regular basis.
Experience analyzing highly complex projects with broad impact to the institution. Demonstrated ability to manage project progress within time and budget constraints.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner in order to achieve results that are significant in scope.
Education
Professional certification preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position requires occasional up to frequent non-standard and/or on-call work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary: The recommended salary range is $140,000 - $166,000. Commensurate with experience.
