Overview This is a grant funded position that will provide Program Coordination for the North Bay Community Health Worker Training Program (NB-CHWTP) to address community needs in north bay counties to access healthcare and improve health outcomes. The NB-CHWTP is a collective impact model designed to train CHWs to close the gap in primary care access in underserved communities in counties North of San Francisco. Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo Counties are some of the most racially and ethnically diverse counties in the United States. The NB-CHWTP will provide expanded training opportunities for entry level CHWs, extend the impact of CHWs by providing advanced training, and develop experiential and employment support for CHWs. Using a consortium approach of partners that include Redwood Community Health Coalition, Northern California Center for Well Being, and Touro University California will implement the following three goals:
Goal 1: EXPANSION OF CHW TRAINING - Increase the number of CHWs trained from diverse communities to create convenient access points to public health and healthcare to reduce health inequities.
Goal 2: EXTENSION OF CHW IMPACT - Implement advanced training for current CHWs to address gaps in public health and community needs and improve community wellness and health outcomes.
Goal 3: EMPLOYMENT & EXPERIENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES - Develop a network of partners who will provide CHW trainees with experiential training (shadowing, internships, and apprenticeships) and employment opportunities.
The experiential coordinator is responsible for supporting and providing leadership in the day-to-day activities and operations related to the employment and experiential components to implement the NB-CHWTP. Flexibility, curiosity, and initiative are essential traits for a successful candidate. This position will be physically located at the TUC campus in Vallejo, CA with travel required to partner clinics throughout the North Bay.
About Touro University California (TUC) TUC is a private, not-for-profit university that provides graduate health professions degrees (pharmacy, physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioners, and public health). TUC is located on a 44 acre campus on Mare Island in Vallejo located in Solano County, California. The TUC mission is to serve, to lead, and to teach with a focus on producing primary care providers that work in underserved communities. This focus on serving in our own local underserved communities and changing health outcomes is demonstrated by University engagement in the student run free medical clinic, the Mobile Diabetes Education Center, community massvax and pop-up clinics to provide COVID-19, flu, and Tdap vaccines, clinical faculty affiliations with FQHCs, training certified Diabetes Prevention lifestyle coaches, and implementing street medicine, and opioid use disorder training.
Responsibilities The Experiential Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of the employment and experiential aspects of the project. This includes:
Identifying and onboarding experiential partners
Leading the development of an apprenticeship program
Scheduling shadowing, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities for CHW trainees
Provides logistics support for NB CHWTP Steering Committee and sub-committee on Employment and Experiential Opportunities.
Responsible for working with trainees on workforce development skills including resume writing and interviewing skills.
Responsible for coordinating with the Program Coordinator to schedule CHW trainees for experiential opportunities.
Coordinates with the Data Coordinator and Evaluation lead to provide required data for rapid cycle quality improvement.
Posts resources to the training website.
Works with the leadership team on the development of MOUs and Articulation Agreements for the development of new partnerships.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, related field, or equivalent education and experience. Master of Public Health preferred. Work experience as a Community Health Worker will be considered in lieu of degree.
Minimum two-three years experience in program/project management, experiential program development, coordination of healthcare partnerships, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum one year experience in healthcare, public health, social service, or related area.
Minimum one years experience in administrative/customer service-based work.
Ability to develop relationships and work effectively with government and community partners
Professional communication skills in both oral and written format
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
