We are looking for a seasoned event professional to join Kirkland’s West Coast Business Development team in the Los Angeles office. From intimate closing dinners to large-scale receptions and client retreats you will be responsible for creating memorable experiences for clients and friends of the Firm. Most importantly, you will ensure each event creates and/or enhances relationships with our diverse clients and prospects and reflects Kirkland’s unique brand. We are looking for an organized and creative professional with fresh ideas and a discerning eye for quality.
In this role, you will collaborate with regional and practice area leads on events and oversee events from conception to completion, ensuring they are aligned with our policies, budgets, procedures, and standards. You will actively contribute ideas, execute and expand upon existing organizational tools, processes and policies, all while providing superior service to attorneys and guests alike. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of the Los Angeles area and be willing to travel. This position will need to attend off-site event venues that require attendees to be fully COVID-19 vaccinated. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, with a proven record of simultaneously managing multiple complex events. This role will work closely with our contact relationship management database (CRM) team to monitor data in the Firm’s CRM, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.
This position requires experience managing junior team members. The role will have three-dotted line reports who also work on events for Kirkland’s West Coast including our Los Angeles, Bay Area and Salt Lake City offices.
You will closely communicate and collaborate daily with approximately 135 diverse problem-solvers and advisers dedicated to the Firm’s broader marketing efforts. You will also closely with our attorneys and key stakeholders to help produce memorable and productive client experiences. Our international BD team provides seamless service to our attorneys, with a focus on quality, innovation and responsiveness.
Essential Functions
Assist in the creation, planning, management, execution and delivery of in-person client events, ensuring all events are aligned with Kirkland’s brand.
Manage relationships with external vendors with an eye toward building relationships that foster economies of scale for repeat business.
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (conference services, branding and design, communications, CRM team and procurement etc.) and provide regular updates to lead attorneys and client representatives as needed. Additionally, you will monitor data in the Firm’s marketing contact relationship management (CRM) database, including the review and creation of mailing lists used for direct mail campaigns.”
Provide on-site support and ensure the smooth execution of all events, supporting receptions and dinners. Periodic travel is required.
Organize and manage staffing arrangements and on-site logistics including all hospitality, audio-visual and other event related logistics as required.
Manage processes for the analysis of event data, post-event briefings, opportunities and ROI reporting, budget reconciliation and promotion of follow-up activities and best practices.
Research and monitor the corporate hospitality market including new events/venues to ensure our Firm has access to the most innovative, tailored options and competitive prices.
Education, Work Experience, Skills
A four-year degree is required.
Professional services or other corporate experience is required. Strong preference for law firm business development event management experience.
Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with high-level attorneys, staff and guests of the Firm are a must. You should be able to work independently while making intelligent, informed decisions. Kirkland demands quality work from every employee (often in high-pressure and deadline-driven scenarios) so you need to be able to multitask and prioritize effectively.
You must have strong project management skills, exceptional business acumen, and a strong ability to identify and understand marketplace trends. You will be required to handle ambiguity, influence others and find ways to move initiatives forward to meet critical deadlines and produce results.
The position demands meticulous communication, writing and proofing skills, and you need to possess a general facility for learning new software. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and an ideal candidate will have five to eight years’ experience in a professional service or corporate environment with a strong preference for law firm business development event management experience. You should have a demonstrated ability to plan and execute a wide variety of events.

This role requires interaction with attorneys and administrative personnel on a regular basis, as well as communicating to various groups within the Business Development Department. The successful candidate will possess outstanding proofreading and communication (oral and written) skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with meticulous attention to detail and a professional demeanor. Professional dress is required.
This role is hybrid role requiring three days in-office, with the option of working from home two days.
