Distribution and Logistical Services is a diverse group of auxiliary enterprises that provide essential services to students, faculty, and staff, in support of the university's academic mission on the Bloomington campus. Distribution and Logistical Services encompasses Document Services, Campus Mail, Warehouse and Surplus Stores.
Job Summary
Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination to a family of related university auxiliary enterprises including Document Services, Campus Mail, Warehouse and Surplus Stores. Supplies dynamic leadership and strategic vision to ensure that these departments achieve their missions and objectives, including employee performance and productivity, product quality, service excellence, competitive pricing, adherence to budgets, and financial success. Develops, implements, directs, and evaluates the strategic, business, and operational plans for these departments. Responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures that offer forward-thing business solutions.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Manages the day-to-day production operations of the offset and digital printing departments including scheduling, estimating, production planning and work assignments to satisfy all customer job requirements and expectations, serving as the primary technical advisor to customers and to internal customer service staff.
Reviews quality and service performance levels for all products and services in each department.
Analyzes equipment needs in conjunction with market direction; research new technology equipment; acquire equipment that increases performance levels and decreases production costs and is consistent with emerging technology and market direction.
Manages all internal department training programs, i.e., OSHA, EPA, sustainability, health and safety.
General Responsibilities:
Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define program methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority program operations/projects/initiatives.
Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing program timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase program initiatives.
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale programs with a wide audience in support of academic initiatives.
Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
Researches and stays up to date on new industry program standards, subject matter experts, best practices, and strategic marketing; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
Works collaboratively with other unit leaders, volunteers, students and/or faculty experts across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to program development, educational initiatives, and institutional priorities.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
