The Human Resources Manager will oversee the day to day operations of the department while partnering with the Assistant Dean of Human Resources on a variety of school wide projects. The Human Resources Manager will provide oversight and guidance to the Human Resources Specialists, who are assigned respective client groups, on the entire life employee life cycle including onboarding, recruitment, leaves, employee relations, career development, performance management, organization structure, re-organization planning, and terminations. In addition, the Human Resources Manager will assist with the planning and execution of school wide projects such as compensation analysis, management training, business title structure, talent acquisition, and improving efficiencies to elevate HR services.
Responsibilities and Duties
Supervise, train and provide guidance to Human Resources Specialists, who are assigned department client groups
Serves as the HR liaison to designated departments within the school and supports managers/department in recruiting efforts, specifically: creates job descriptions, drafts and assembles new position proposals/justifications for central administration review, and posts open positions for recruitment
Create, manage and evaluate procedures for day to day human resources operations
Partner with department managers and staff to resolve performance issues and create performance improvement plans
Manage the grievance  and investigations process
Manage workforce planning and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management with focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies.
Coordinates with UCSâs central HR on various administrative issues, including background checks, payroll, compensation analyses, job classifications, compliance, etc.
Oversee the faculty contract business processes in collaboration with the Vice Deanâs Office and academic units
Provide guidance to Human Resources Specialists on leave management, employment status, payroll, etc.
Prepare reports and analysis to the Assistant Dean of Human Resources and school leadership as required
Provide guidance and approval for independent contractor requests submitted by departments
Manage the faculty and staff visa process in partnership with the universityâs Faculty and Staff Visa Support (FSVS) team
Conducts needs assessments of teams and departments and provides appropriate solutions (e.g., team building, coaching, OD, training) to improve performance, workflow and engagement
Manages student workers and projects as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge with of Workday HCM Application and Analytics preferred
Experience in higher education
Five or more experience in human resources
Strong understanding of knowledge, trends, best practices, regulatory changes within human resources and higher education.Â
Demonstrated success in mentoring and coaching skills to enhance client management and leadership abilities/relationships
Preferred Field of Expertise: Experience in a higher education environment; demonstrated success in change management and culture work; Human Resources certifications: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP; SHRM-SCP.  Â
Experience managing human resources operations
Experience managing team or leadership role
Interest and experience creating an inclusive work community

Salary Range:
The annual base salary range for this position is $106,278.65 - $136,808.97. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidateâs work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
