FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering 60 associate and bachelor's degree programs, located in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for a full-time lecturer or assistant professor in the Career and Technology Teacher Education Department, to begin in the Fall 2023 semester. The full-time lecturer position leads to a certificate of continuous employment (CCE). The assistant professor position is a tenure-track position.
The Career and Technology Education (CTTE) Department currently offers Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) degrees in both Career & Technical Teacher Education and Technology Teacher Education, as well as the Transitional C Certificate program in Technology Education. The CTTE Department also offers initial certificates in Career & Technical Teacher Education and Technology Teacher Education. All of these programs are currently in the process of being reviewed for accreditation by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The CTTE department is part of the School of Professional Studies.
The ideal candidate is expected to be committed to student-centered teaching and creating active and inclusive learning environments. We are seeking a faculty member dedicated to building trusting and collaborative relationships with students and colleagues to serve the department's mission. They will contribute to the CTTE Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College, and the University, including but not limited to, service related to the day-to-day operation of the department, recruitment & admissions, student advisement, assessment, governance, partnerships, funding, curriculum development and accreditation requirements.
The Lecturer position requires teaching and service to the department and college. The Assistant Professor position requires teaching, service to the department and college, as well as scholarly activities leading to peer reviewed publications, presentations and/or significant creative works.
Lecturer responsibilities include:
Teaching pedagogy, clinical or laboratory courses in the department of Career and Technology Teacher Education and service to the department and college. Faculty members are expected to develop and maintain relationships with professional organizations and attend regional and national/international conferences. In addition to teaching, the position entails office hours for student support and advisement and administrative duties within the department to promote curriculum enhancement and program excellence.
Assistant Professor responsibilities include:
All activities related to the lecturer position, plus sustained productive scholarship or creative achievement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
For appointment as a Lecturer, a bachelor???s degree in a relevant discipline (Career and Technical Education, Computer Science Education, Technology Education, or a related field) and the ability to teach successfully.
For appointment as an Assistant Professor, a doctorate or terminal degree in a relevant discipline is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Candidates with degrees in other relevant STEM disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
- For appointment as a Lecturer, a master???s degree or higher is strongly preferred.
- Candidates should possess a strong up-to-date knowledge in the field of technology education, computer science education and /or career and technical education.
- An understanding of the learning standards for Career Development and Occupational Studies, Standards for Technological and Educational and Engineering Literacy and/or of New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards is highly desirable.
- At least 3 years of P-12 teaching experience, particularly experience in teaching in any of the following: CTE, technology, computer science education, or method courses that pertain to these disciplines. Experience working with and teaching students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds is preferred.
- Ability to operate hands-on lab tools/ equipment and software for CTE, Technology or Computer Science education.
Vaccine Requirement
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
COMPENSATION
Lecturer- $69,665 - $88,998
Assistant Professor - $75,465 - $93,134

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022
City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
