UCI MIND is an Organized Research Unit focusing on basic and clinical research in the fields of brain aging and cognitive disorders. Our mission is to discover means to improve the lives of people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. UCI MIND is committed to community education with the goals of keeping the community informed of our progress, sharing learnings that can help community members reduce their risk for dementia.
This position is within the UCI Model Organism Development and Evaluation for Late-onset Alzheimer's disease (MODEL-AD) Disease Modeling Project (DMP) Core. MODEL-AD is a NIA / NIH-funded multi-project, multi-institutional grant whose goal is to produce the next generation of mouse models for late-onset AD and develop new therapeutic targets. Under supervision by the Project Scientist, the successful applicant will perform animal husbandry of newly developed transgenic animals to assist the production flow.
One year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in rodent handling in research laboratory
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma
Excellent time-management and record-keeping skills
Strong work ethic
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred:
Ability to participate in shared project management workflow (via Teams, Slack, Trello, etc.)
Knowledge of basic mouse genetics
Special Conditions Required:
May be required to work on weekends as needed.
Working early shift (6:00am-2:30pm)
