Position Summary

The MSU School of Social Work is dedicated to educating students for ethical, competent, responsive, and innovative social work practice, and to conducting and disseminating high quality research that improves the well-being of the most vulnerable in society. Our teaching, research, and outreach synergistically promote social justice, positive change, and solutions to the problems facing diverse individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. More than 650 students are enrolled in our CSWE-accredited BASW and MSW programs, and PhD program.

The Kinship Care Resource Center (KCRC) is a statewide Kinship Navigator Program that supports formal and informal kinship caregivers through provision of information, referral and support, assistance obtaining support services, and coaching and advocacy to support kinship caregiving families. The KCRC is collecting evidence and may establish a new evidence-based practice model that may be considered for federal payments under the Family First Prevention Services Act of 2018. This is a grant funded position with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

The MichiKIN team will be comprised of subcontracted partners who host kinship navigators and work directly with KCRC team members implementing the KCRC Navigator model and use the KCRC infrastructure. The MichiKIN Team Coach will be a full-time employee of the KCRC and responsible for coaching all Kinship Navigators and Family Advocates. The Team Coach is dedicated to supporting implementation of the developing model of Kinship Support from referral to in-home family advocacy.

The primary functions of this role include coaching for fidelity of the Kinship Navigator model, ensuring continuous quality improvement activities at the statewide level, and partnering with kinship families served by the Kinship Care Resource Center.

• Meets regularly with Kinship Navigators and Family Advocates who provide information, referral and support services to consult on cases and support implementation of the Kinship Navigator protocol.
• Reviews program tools, fidelity measures, and data collection for the evaluation team with KCRC staff
• Monitors programmatic goals and metrics for assigned navigator sites
• Partners with navigator sites to set goals, gather feedback on common challenges, and interpret program data.
• Facilitates communication and maintains relationships within referral agencies to ensure effective service delivery
• Coaches and supports Navigators to evaluate and discern how each case with its individualized plan meets benchmarks set forth by the evaluation team
• Responds to inquiries from prospective program participants and provides referrals and direct services as needed
• Co-designs and executes CQI plan for assigned navigator sites and drives CQI activities
• Identifies and implements activities designed to meet continued learning needs for Kinship Navigators and Partnering Supervisors through Learning Collaboratives
• Communicates regularly with the Regional Coordinators regarding program delivery and services provided
• Partners with Kinship and Adoption Navigators to identify trends across cases and share common barriers and facilitators that kinship families are experiencing
• Participates and facilitates CQI activities as assigned

Required Degree

Masters -Social Work or related field

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field with a minimum of 2 years post graduate work experience by the date of employment.
• Experience monitoring for continuous quality improvement (CQI), advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, engaged in direct services to families, and supervising staff in a professional setting, in possession of or eligible for professional licensure in respective field in the State of Michigan.
• Additional required skills include communications content management (written, verbal, digital) experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, calendaring software, desktop publishing and/or project management software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Central Registry Clearance documenting that there is no record of child abuse or neglect.
• Internal Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) check and a National and State Sex Offender Registry Check.

Desired Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; and knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA Compliance and Mandated Reporter Guidelines.
• Work independently as well as contribute to a team.
• Maintain confidentiality in all aspects related to this position.
• Ability to maintain confidential information regarding all aspects of client, family, employee, and project information.
• Effective communication.
• Experience developing or implementing an evidenced based intervention
• Experience performing Continuous quality improvement and through a race equity lens
