SOAR Program Academic Coach (Multiple Positions): Special Programs Coordinator: Student Development; MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; 37.5 hours per week; Pay grade 4; This position may require some evening and weekend hours for which compensatory time will be offered per the MCCC contract.
The SOAR program is a new, grant-funded, high impact cohort-based program that provides students with opportunities for academic success, career development, identity development, and leadership development. The Soar Program is funded through the SUCCESS fund initiative, coordinated and funded through the Mass. Association of Community Colleges and the Mass. Department of Higher Education.
As a SOAR Academic Coach, provide holistic academic and non-academic related supports to students, primarily SOAR program participants. Perform study skills inventory using diagnostics such as LASSI and the Noel-Levitz College Student Inventory. Develop a student/coach relationship to assigned caseload of students; build student motivation and self-confidence, provide study skills strategies, equip students with soft skills, including ability to communicate with faculty, provide students with information regarding academic and other appropriate on-campus resources. Encourage students to be self-reflective about learning process. Monitor progress of Academic Success Coaching students; maintain records of individual coaching sessions, utilize EAB Navigate system to monitor academic performance, provide outreach and respond to alerts. Provide regular progress reports of SOAR Program participants to the Assistant Director of SOAR.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The SOAR Program Academic Coach will be responsible for but not limited to:
Assist in the continued development of Academic Success Coaching and in planning and implementing the delivery of related services as part of the wrap-around student support experience.
Work in close collaboration with faculty, academic departments and staff college-wide to deliver individualized Academic Success Coaching support for students.
Plan, develop, and deliver relevant workshops across both campuses in the appropriate modalities according to student needs and faculty preference.
Manage and support student employees; communicate with students, manage student access and provide reports. Assist in the collection of data and reporting and with other office-related duties.
Collaborate college-wide to promote student success. Participate in orientation or registration activities as appropriate.
Collaborate with Center for Accessibility Resources & Services to provide appropriate assistance to students with disabilities, recommend study strategies, and use adaptive equipment or methods.
Support and assist in meeting various grant objectives.
Facilitate student access to college services.
Anticipate and meet all program participant needs accurately, professionally and with a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Responsible for working cross-functionally with other teams, building customer relationships, and other special projects, as necessary.
Participate in professional-development activities.
Bachelor's degree in a related field; with three (3) years' experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, program/project management or administrative work in academic environment/ or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
Experience teaching learning strategies
Experience with online classes (to help students with accessing courses and developing strategies for online classes)
Experience developing and delivering workshops
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Creative problem-solving abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Student Affairs or related field
Experience working in community college.
Experience with skills inventory diagnostics such as LASSI
Knowledge of strategies and adaptive equipment or methods for students with disabilities
Bilingual or Bicultural (Spanish and English).
Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population.

Additional Information:
GRADE AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $52,754.00 to $60,478.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package. Complete fringe benefit package including competitive health insurance, dental insurance, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal leave, educational benefits for employee/spouse/dependents, and excellent retirement benefits. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system. Transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
