Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
The Research Intern will identify and define research problems, design hypotheses and methodology to be used in the experiment, design specific phases of research projects, analyze research results, develop conclusions and hypothesis, and present research results in publishable form both in writing and in scientific meetings. Primary focus of research for this position will be in the area of plant-microbe evolutionary ecology and -omics. This person will be focused on nitrogen-fixing interactions between plants and bacteria, as well as assisting with other projects in the laboratory as needed. This is a temporary position expected to end on November 15th, 2023. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if funding to extend employment.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing professional-level work with scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience working with bacteria, nitrogen-fixation, high-throughput assays, plant inoculations, field and greenhouse work, molecular biology, and the R programming environment.
Conducting experiments in microbiology
DNA extraction using standard and/or high-throughput techniques
High -throughput sequencing of the microbiome and bacterial genomes
General laboratory maintenance
