The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) at Columbia University serves the University???s sixteen undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, providing our international community of students and scholars with advisory and tactical support on all immigration matters, enabling them to focus on their rigorous academic and professional aspirations.
Reporting to the Director for International Student Services and the Associate Provost for Academic Initiatives, the Associate Director for International Students Programs oversees and supports the administration, operationalization, and marketing of ISSO programming efforts. They will manage and deliver a portfolio of over 100 professional development sessions annually, including the Global Leadership Advancing Student Success (GLASS) professional development program.
PROGRAM DESIGN AND ADMINISTRATION (60%)
Develop and launch GLASS, the inaugural ISSO Professional Leadership Development Program;
Deliver in-person and virtual learning events, classes, special events, workshops, and other learning and development offerings; Serve as a key liaison to schools on graduate student activities including Welcome Day events, ongoing Orientation programming, student networking events, speaker events, and other initiatives for international students;
Track and evaluate student attendance and engagement along with student feedback. Evaluate and assess the session quality and make continuous improvements to ISSO programs;
Advise and provide administrative support to international student groups; support international undergraduate and graduate student leaders??? professional development and leadership;
Research the current learning trends and manage learning event logistics, tasks, and communications to ensure successful delivery and implementation of content;
Serve as subject matter expert (SME), in the design and development of learning content and evaluations, to identify ways to continuously improve the programs and outcomes;
Develop and manage the overall leadership and skill-building programs by identifying the learning needs, designing learning modules and opportunities, managing resources, as well as delivering and conducting evaluations;
Manage and analyze the attendance and evaluation data collected from the events. Oversee and manage student databases and related data from the events;
Host open virtual office hours for all student inquiries including addressing and advising student inquiries related to programming in a timely manner, and escalate urgent issues to the Director.
PROGRAM DELIVERY (30%)
Manage and set up technologies and course/program administration applications to track student progress, host videos/tutorials, and communication and evaluation of programs. Obtain and manage resources (rooms, materials, Virtual and/or the course work and interactivity via the Canvas Learning Management System);
Oversee on-site in-person activities including set up and shut down. Communicate and make local arrangements for guest speakers and faculty lecturers, and serve as a liaison to university programming offices;
Manage ISSO Programming staff and student employees who are responsible for the execution of the ISSO Programs.
RELATED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
Work with the Center for Teaching and Learning on learning design and engagement projects;
Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience required;
Familiar with coaching, instructional design and organizational development;
Experience facilitating learning and delivering seminars, workshops, and presentations to large groups. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, plan, organize and effectively manage time;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills. Able to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, faculty, and students in small and large group settings
Must exercise good judgment and flexibility;
Positive, forward-thinking, mission-oriented attitude and a sense of humor are a must.
Advanced degree in International Education, Adult Learning, Higher Education, or other tertiary curriculum design and program development field;
Experiences as a program developer or trainer, preferably within a professional service organization, with curriculum design and development in international education;
Experience with international students' programming and working with diverse cultural backgrounds and workplace professionals like orientation, onboarding, and/or student leadership programming;
Fluency in at least one foreign language; experience living abroad; familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Web-based applications.
