Stanford Graduate School of Business External Relations department seeks a collaborative and innovative associate director to create, execute, and manage a wide area of high-level alumni events. These events include the annual Arbuckle Award, the Encore Award presentation, and the Excellence in Leadership event. Additionally, the Associate Director of Special Events and Awards will take the lead on other exciting annual events such as a volunteer summit, fellowship dinners, and more.
A highly cross-functional and visible role, the ideal candidate will possess a strategic, customer-service oriented mindset, project management skills, attention to detail, a sense of humor, a can-do attitude and a team-oriented approach. Within the Alumni Relations group, this position reports to the Director of Reunions and Events. Staffing occasional evening and weekend events will be required. Flexible hours may be considered.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Manage and execute high-level alumni and donor focused events.
Work closely with facilities and vendors to execute flawless logistics.
Collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to: GSB External Relations, the larger GSB and Stanford community honorees, and individual and corporate/foundation donors .
Bear primary responsibility within GSB External Relations for Stanford award opportunities.
In partnership with colleagues within Development (Principal Gifts, Major Giving, Business School Fund, Donor Relations and Development Communications), and Alumni Relations, evaluate and take the lead on all alumni award nomination processes.
Steward all award winners through the process with impeccable customer service.
Partner with your colleagues on the team to support reunions and other events.
Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cost negotiations for special events.
Take the lead on other annual External Relations events as assigned.

Strong ability to understand alumni needs, show good judgment and diplomacy, and a high tolerance for ambiguity.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with decision makers across many levels of an organization.
Experience working with cross-functional teams.
Strong track record as relationship builder and collaborator.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
A minimum of 5 years of event design and execution experience. Higher education event management experience is a plus, but not required.
