The Research Computing Center (RCC) in the Department of Radiology at Washington University is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and customer satisfaction-focused applications developer and administrator to develop and support the RCCâ™s imaging data management infrastructure. The center has an installed base of a number of highly customized XNAT imaging informatics platform instances (https://www.xnat.org), managing petabytes of imaging and non-imaging data across numerous projects, both clinical and non-clinical. These range from small imaging studies to large multi-site, longitudinal projects housing data from multiple modalities across thousands of participants. In conjunction with the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) and the centerâ™s Docker swarms, these platforms support high volume, containerized pipeline processing across many of these studies.
Working under the Director of Research Informatics, you will plan, design, manage, develop, configure, deploy and support the RCCâ™s data management and processing infrastructure; partner with scientists and other collaborating entities to implement novel processing pipelines; design and implement solutions to facilitate complex workflows; facilitate integration of the data management platform with external tools and systems; and develop and implement solutions to facilitate the acquisition and sharing of research data. You will serve as primary applications administrator on one or more of the centerâ™s data management systems.
Local applicants are preferred, however exceptionally well qualified remote candidates will be considered for this position.
Standard computer department working environment with standing, walking, and lifting less than 50 pounds required; a moderate amount of work performed at customer site.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, design, manage, develop, and support the CIRCâ™s data management and containerized pipeline processing infrastructure.
Serve as primary administrator on one or more installed XNAT imaging data management systems, including associated applications.
Develop custom application plugins to provide new functionality and user interfaces.
In consultation of the XNAT core development team, work to extend core XNAT functionality and contribute development efforts back to the open source XNAT project.
Develop, manage, and support ancillary/standalone applications and tools as required.
Partner with scientists and other collaborating entities to implement novel containerized processing pipelines.
Partner with project staff and investigators to design and implement solutions to facilitate complex workflows.
Facilitate integration of the data management platform with external tools and systems.
Implement solutions to facilitate the acquisition and sharing of research data.
Provide and oversee operations support of currently deployed platforms and applications.
Identify, troubleshoot, and remedy system issues.
Perform and/or oversee data acquisition, sharing and processing operations, and manage project data.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Extensive Java development experience, with full-stack development experience strongly preferred.
Solid experience providing development and operational support of complex, web-based applications.
Solid Linux shell scripting experience (e.g. Bash, Python).
Customer focused approach: driven to deliver outstanding solutions and support. Fostering and maintaining solid relationships with stakeholders.
Experience with Spring and Hibernate.
Experience with relational databases and SQL.
Solid Python development experience strongly preferred.
Planning and Organizing: Possesses expertise in industry best practices as well as change management planning; manages day-to-day work of other technicians and/or analysts.
Project Management: Ability to manage complex projects on all levels.
Technical Knowledge: Ability to interact and serve as a technical resource to technicians and analysts; possesses advanced technical knowledge of applications systems analysis and programming; understands detailed technical issues to design architecture for stable technologies; provides direction for technicians and other analysts.
Technical Solution Development: Ability to research and implement new technologies in specialty or related area; knowledge of computer equipment capacity and limitations in order to devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems; knowledge of system development and/or maintenance technologies needed to support and maintain the infrastructure on which assigned applications reside.
Technical Support: Ability to interact with and serve as a key resource in solving problems of high complexity to other analyst and technicians; ability to recommend solutions to technical problems.
Consultancy Skills: Ability to consult with clients on issues and requests that require implementation or creation of a custom solution.
Certification or degree in computer programming from a technical school or college plus four years of relevant work experience required; additional programming or other relevant IT experience may be substituted year-for-year for required education
$70,300.00 - $120,000.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
