Reporting to the Director of Field Education, the Associate Director is responsible for the development and management of graduate-level Social Work student practicum opportunities; and the management of or assistance with one or more specialization areas: fields of practice and method areas.
The incumbent will consistently identify, assess and authorize new field placement sites for both generalist year and specialist year students; recruit and screen new field instructors, and in the process of recruiting and authorizing practicum sites, the incumbent will provide information and training to newly recruited field instructors and education coordinators; systematically and consistently monitor and assess field practicum sites; assess and facilitate the placement of students at field practicum sites; co-chair one or more Field of Practice Advisory Committees with faculty; and contribute to and/or manage the Field Education Placement Planning Preferences. The incumbent will be responsible for utilizing the Field Education data management system which includes consistently inputting, updating, and managing student and agency site information.
The Associate Director will work with multiple constituents including CSSW faculty, students, advisors, other CSSW administrative offices, and social work and non-social work professionals both at other schools of social work and working generally in the field. The incumbent will also be responsible for other significant program components in the Field Education Office. Additional assignments include the management and coordination of SIFI courses; and the design, implementation, analysis, and writing of Field Education research initiatives and special projects.
1. Develop and Maintain Relationships with Field Practicum Sites - 35%
Identify and recruit appropriate agencies/organizations to serve as graduate practicum opportunities for graduate-level Social Work students.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with the agencies/organizations??? leadership.
Serve as liaison to facilitate arrangements/agreements between the organizations and CSSW.
2. Manage the Field Education Practicum and the Field Placement Process ??? 45%
Manage the field placement process by securing a field practicum for each student at an appropriate field practicum site.
Discuss field practicum options with students, provide information essential to social work practice and guidance, promote student learning and encourage their professional development, and mediate to resolve difficulties when necessary.
Provide CSSW field instruction information to field instructors to facilitate student learning and evaluation.
Collaborate with the Office of Advising to resolve student issues related to field placements and to address related pedagogical matters. Collaborate with faculty members in the design, development, and implementation of field education initiatives and other projects.
3. Facilitate the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) Training and reinforce the Motivational Interviewing (MI) Skills Lab training ??? 5%
4. Support External Supervision ??? 5%
Oversee and provide supervision to students in their field practicum.
Conduct site visits and telephone/video conferences with students and agency representatives as needed.
Conduct weekly recording reviews and provide feedback as needed.
Collaboratively address and resolve student issues.
5. Design, develop, and implement Office of Field Education activities related to curricular development and implementation, student field practicum planning, field instructor support, advisor training, and/or professional conferences related to field education. (10%)
Participate in and contribute to department/staff/sub-committee meetings.
Undertake other related developmental duties and tasks as needed, assigned, or appropriate for the Office of Field Education.
??? Masters in Social Work required from an accredited graduate school of social work.
??? A minimum of five years post-Masters agency-based social work experience that includes supervising students.
??? Prior experience securing field practicum opportunities for students at agency sites, monitoring field placements, and/or working in a graduate school of social work field education office required.
??? Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated comfort in interacting with a broad constituency are mandatory.
??? Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines while leading multiple, concurrent projects with minimal supervision required.
??? Strong proficiency in utilizing databases to manage data, send bulk communications, and track processes.
??? Ability to work with and be supportive of team effort is essential.
??? A strong sales and customer service orientation along with a commitment to creative and innovative practice is required.
??? Capacity to prioritize projects and demands.
??? Demonstrated tact, discretion, diplomacy, professionalism, and a strong customer-service orientation and computer technology required.
Prior experience with project management and partnership development is strongly preferred.
