Basic Function and Responsibility:
Under direction from the Senior Manager of Digital and Web Strategy, the Senior Web Content Specialist oversees the content of the Oakton website, manages the website governance process, and facilitates the contributions of the college community to the public website.
Support and implement web and other digital content plan/s consistent with strategic priorities of the College. This position will work closely with teams throughout the college and within the college relations department to ensure that the website's content successfully represents the College's brand and helps the various users achieve their goals.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing, deploying, prioritizing, and coordinating the wide array of college and stakeholder content on Oakton's public website. Responsible for timely, accurate content on the College's external website while ensuring brand consistency. Maintains a thorough understanding of target audiences and distills complex information into clear messaging that engages the specific audiences.
Assists in training the college's content contributors and manages the established website governance and maintains ownership of the quality and consistency of web content and structure in CMS. Following best practices in accessibility requirements for web content.
In partnership with the Content Specialist, monitors and approves content changes through the college's content management system (Cascade). Develop a collaborative approach and process for continual audit review of all web page content in order to ensure transparency and accuracy. Maintains current information through the College's Content Management System.
Develops and maintains a search engine optimization and keyword plan/s to increase visibility and rankings on search engine results; Ongoing keyword research and content recommendations to ensure the website's content fulfills SEO best practices including appropriate link building.
Works with the college relations team to improve SEO and overall web presence.
Continually inventories and assesses the quality of individual sections of the college's website as well as the overall content/messaging to advise Marketing and Communications, and other departments.
Proactively collaborate with faculty and staff in the development of departmental pages. Using data to drive content decisions and changes needed for a better user experience.
Ensure that the website adheres to the College's standard for uniformity of style as outlined in the College's Brand Standards manual, Writing and Web Guideline Standards, and federal and state accessibility standards. Work closely with other members of the College Relations team to maintain and edit website content.
Effectively collaborate on digital initiatives and interpret stakeholder needs.
Assists in the creation and website management documentation and training for content editors across campus. Develops systems for ensuring that content editors understand how to use the website and implement systems to manage feedback, bug reports, and requests. Manages page templates and site architecture to assist content managers across campus.
Evaluates site metrics and employ strategies to improve analytics. Reports regularly on metrics and analytics to department and relevant campus stakeholders.
Stay updated on implementing industry, platform, and marketing knowledge of innovations to enhance the College's efforts. Assess web needs and recommend enhancements. Work collaboratively and proactively with college relations team members and internal stakeholders to assess new technologies, user expectations, trends, and opportunities.
Assists with emergency response planning and preparation and support campus and community notification of emergencies via the website, including after-hours crisis or emergency messaging on the web.

Supervision Received:
Functional supervision is received by the Senior Manager of Web and Digital Strategy. Administrative supervision is received by the Director of Marketing.

Job Requirements:
Required
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Five years of marketing and communications experience.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, organizational, and writing skills.
Ability to communicate/interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.
Demonstrated ability to write copy for multiple mediums.
Experience with CMS (content management system) tools.
Extensive experience proofreading and editing and working knowledge of AP style.
Extensive experience in SEO and keyword research.
Knowledge of ranking factors and search engine algorithms.
Ability to demonstrate leadership and make tough decisions but exercise diplomacy and consensus building with college stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and proven marketing analytics experience.
Detail-orientated, creative, and skilled at multi-tasking.
Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students.
Considerable knowledge of project management practices and procedures.
Understanding of the creative side and analytical side of marketing.
Knowledge of ADA and WCAG 2.0 requirements.
Excellent organizational skills with a proven track record in project management and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experience with QA/usability testing on websites; preferred.
Preferred
Master's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English or related field.
Seven or more years of marketing and communications experience.
Google Analytics certified.
Experience with email systems and email communication strategies (Constant Contact, My Emma, mail chimp, etc.)
An understanding of performance marketing, conversion, and online customer acquisition.
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints.
Experience with vendor management.
Experience with digital assets management and/or project management systems.
Higher education experience.
Physical Demands:
Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.
Additional Information:
HOURS: Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm
SALARY: $55,249
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available. Please note, that during the 65 working day probationary period, employees are required to report to campus.
