Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Program Director of the ADULT EDUCATION CENTER of CCCC (AEC), the HiSET Instructor is responsible for teaching Intermediate Level of the Adult Secondary Education (ASE) within a diverse, culturally inclusive, student-centered setting while adhering to the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) guidelines under the DESE Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) unit. We are planning to start classes Face-to-Face in the classroom. Teacher Applicants should be prepared to pivot to Remote teaching and learning if health concerns warrant a change. Instruction will take place three mornings per week throughout the academic year (September 2022 - June 2023).
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
1. Follow research-based best practices in adult education, AEC teachers must demonstrate that the ASE curricula and instruction are:
-Aligned with the standards and level-specific standards of the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRSAE) and reflects the instructional shifts for the program's lowest-level students (Levels A-C), and extends through Levels D-E.
-Based on thematic instructional units.
-Informed by students' needs and goals.
-Preparing students for college or further education and career training.
-Developing students' digital literacy, academic, and metacognitive skills. Using a variety of instructional methods, techniques, and tools, including differentiated instruction and scaffolding, to accommodate differences in learning styles to develop student skills in Math, Writing, Reading, Social Studies, Science, and other related subjects.
2.Incorporate individualized student Career and Education skills and activities into curriculum, including, but not limited to:
-Individual student goal exploration.
-An inventory of each student's interests, values, and aspirations.
-Inventory of each student's skills.
-Exploration of occupational choices that relate to his/her goals, interests, and skills. Assisting students in recording activity exploration outcomes on the Adult Education Center
3.Teach ASE curriculum Face-to Face and/or remotely include F2F time via Zoom, the organization of lessons, materials, and work in Moodle, and the execution of online textbook materials and activities.
4. Provide ongoing and measurable interactive Face-to-Face and/or remote learning activities that reinforce ASE Math, Social Studies, Science, Reading, and Writing Skills with individuals, pair, or small groups.
5. Employ a variety of instructional methods, techniques, and tools, including, but not limited to scaffolding, higher-order thinking skills, and differentiated instruction to accommodate differences in learning styles, toward increasing student skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
6. Teach the required number of sessions weekly/yearly (adding make-up sessions as needed for snow days).
7. Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans that align with the units in the scope and sequence for the Pre-ASE level of instruction being taught.
8. Record student attendance accurately, monitor attendance, and communicate information to advising staff and/ or program administrators.
9. Communicate with advising and administrative staff regarding any student, class, curriculum, programmatic challenges, or issues.
10. Attending mandatory 3-day, in-house August Institute Professional Development scheduled on August 15, 16. 17, 2022.
11. Assist with intake, orientation, assessment, and counseling, as needed.
12. Make student referrals to advising or admin staff, as necessary.
13. Attend 12 hours of professional development opportunities per academic year, as required for program facilitation and as per DESE guidelines.
14.Arrange for substitute teachers when needed and provide appropriate lesson plans for them.
15. Submit required documentation in accordance with deadlines.
16. Attend monthly, two-hour staff meetings.
17. Assist with curriculum development and other programmatic issues/events, as needed.
18. Attend mandatory new staff orientation.
Job Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
- Three years of demonstrated teaching experience in Adult Education.
- Demonstrated ability to teach high school Math, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, and Science to prepare students to pass the battery of 5 tests to obtain the HiSET equivalency credential.
- Ability to teach digital literacy to students.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of diverse adult populations in ASE programs.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience with multicultural students.
- Ability to relate to the needs and interests of adult students.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching Math.
- Knowledge of the Massachusetts Adult Secondary Education system.
- Knowledge of assessments used in the Massachusetts Adult Secondary Education system.

Additional Information:COMPENSATION: $29.79 per hour for 9 hours of class time and 6 hours of planning time per week, 2 hours/month for staff meetings and 12 hours/year of professional development. Approximate period of employment: September 2022 - June 2023. Part-time, Non-benefited, grant-funded, MCCC Unit Position.
