The School of Information (I School) advances knowledge and practice everywhere humans interact with digital technologies. Through interdisciplinary research and teaching we are committed to expanding access to information and to improving its usability, reliability, and credibility while preserving security and privacy. Our faculty conduct research in human-computer interaction (HCI), security and privacy, applied data science, and technology in developing regions.
We currently offer three professional master's degrees and an academic doctoral degree. Our Master of Information Management and Systems
(MIMS) program trains students for careers as information professionals and emphasizes project-based learning. Our Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) program is an online degree designed for working professionals with career goals in the emerging field of data science. The newly launched Master of Information and Cybersecurity (MICS), also offered online, offers a holistic approach to cybersecurity and prepares students for professional careers in cybersecurity. Our Ph.D. program equips scholars to develop solutions and shape policies that influence how people seek, use, and share information.
The Front Desk Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the operations of the School of Information's main office front desk, acting as a central point of information for the School community, ensuring the smooth functioning of the main office, and supporting the Head of School's office.
Specifically, the Coordinator:
Administers and manages the School of Information front desk office which includes activities in the following areas: human resources, facilities, administrative operations for Head of School, communications, IT, and safety. Is the central point of information for the School of Information community. Plans and manages the workflow and related processes and procedures for student employees, including all office administration and related functions.
Determines need for general office equipment and supplies. Makes purchases for the office using a procurement card. Responsible for providing receipts/invoices to reconcile card purchases.
Provides building and office orientation to new employees.
Develops and periodically reviews office orientation manuals and materials.
Provides event support to the External Relations team working in tandem with Associate Director of External Relations, setting up/deconstructing events, ordering food for staff/faculty/student events.
Provides support to the Dean and Assistant Dean, as needed. Oversees and ensures the daily administrative operations run smoothly for the executive's office. Manages Head of School's calendar, makes appropriate travel arrangements, oversees administrative and logistical arrangements for conferences and meetings, and handles sensitive and confidential information.

Assesses and recommends changes to maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal policies. Participates in the development and revision of standard office procedures and guidelines, including School-specific systems and standards. Ensures efficient and streamlined office-wide business procedures and protocols.

Helps maintain South Hall facilities, including coordinating projects with campus facilities staff and contractors, point of contact for building problems and emergencies, basic maintenance of shared spaces, managing keys and room reservations, coordinating faculty and student office moves.
Primary South Hall safety officer, responsible for inspecting building fire extinguisher systems, maintaining signage, and emergency evacuation plans.

Provides support to the Dean and Assistant Dean, as needed. Oversees and ensures the daily administrative operations run smoothly for the executive's office. Manages Head of School's calendar, makes appropriate travel arrangements, oversees administrative and logistical arrangements for conferences and meetings, and handles sensitive and confidential information.

Coordinates with the Associate Director of External Relations to help ensure events run smoothly from beginning to end. Organizes catering for faculty and staff events.

Participates in continuing education to maintain skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and / or equivalent certification /experience / training.
- Thorough knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
- Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
- Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
