Position Summary
Under the direction of program leadership, the full-time Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of the administrative and educational activities of the Columbia Summer Research Institute (CSRI) and Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Resource of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. This detail-oriented position involves working closely with several different CUIMC/MSPH offices, faculty and teaching assistants, external parties, and scholars.
The Department of Biostatistics is one of six departments at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, supporting a variety of research initiatives and educational programs. The Department houses both CSRI and BERD. The CSRI is an intensive 2-month summer research methods boot camp for junior faculty and post-doctoral fellows. Each summer, a cohort of medical researchers participates in a fully-immersive educational program comprised of five courses covering biostatistics, epidemiology, decision analysis, health disparities, and grant writing. BERD, a major component of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, provides a wide range of design, statistical, analytical, and database management/REDCap support services to assist Columbia University Irving Medical Center faculty members in garnering grant support and publishing study results. In addition, BERD offers a range of educational activities including monthly lectures and mini-courses.

Responsibilities
Columbia Summer Research Institute (CSRI) ??? serve as program coordinator for CSRI: 55%
- Work closely with the Co-Directors and team members in the preparation, coordination, and logistics of the summer program to ensure successful execution of each course and the program as a whole.
- Develop and share material for marketing and for maintaining a web presence (e.g. creating digital flyers, brochures, and social media posts, developing and updating information on our webpages, submitting information to other websites, drafting emails, and creating contact lists).
- Communicate professionally in an accurate and timely manner with various offices and individuals that play a role in CSRI (e.g. instructors, teaching assistants, mentors, Student Affairs, Student Health, Communications, AV, catering, etc.), as well as with prospective students, applicants, and CSRI scholars through a central email account.
- Work closely and autonomously with CSRI instructors in-person, over Zoom, and email communication to adhere to planning timelines and MSPH course & program requirements.
- Use a variety of platforms for marketing, communication, admissions, pre-registration and registration management, student tracking, and evaluation compilation.
- Prepare, organize, and distribute a variety of program materials, including student packets, textbooks, software licenses, certificates, and promotional products.
- Coordinate and schedule group and 1:1 meetings, as well as social, networking and career development events.
- Provide direct logistical support to scholars, instructors and mentors, and communicate program updates in a timely manner.
- During the 2-month program, provide support for other behind-the-scenes tasks which include assisting instructors with setting up, organizing breakfast/lunch catering and coffee/refreshment breaks, and clean-up after each day.
Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) ??? serve as a program coordinator for BERD: 35%
- Work closely with the Director and BERD faculty members in the planning, coordination, and logistics of BERD???s administrative and educational offerings
- Work closely with BERD???s consulting team for their logistical needs.
- Develop and share material with the CTSA administrative team for marketing and evaluation (digital flyers and brochures, social media posts, developing and updating information on our webpages, submitting information to other websites, drafting emails, and creating contact lists.
- Work closely and autonomously with BERD instructors in-person, over Zoom, and email communication to adhere to planning timelines and program requirements.
- Use a variety of platforms for participant communication, pre-registration and registration management, documentation management, and evaluation compilation.
- Communicate professionally in an accurate and timely manner with various offices and people who collaborate with BERD (e.g., instructors, CTSA central administration, Communications, AV, IT, catering, etc.).
- Assist with the preparation of agendas and presentations for monthly and quarterly meetings.
Perform other related duties as required. 10%
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor???s degree or equivalent in education and experience.
Minimum three years of related experience is required.
Must be able to work flexible hours when needed, including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability in event or program management, with proven record of working effectively with diverse constituencies.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and excellent organizational skills with ability to handle high-volume workload, manage concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, manage competing priorities, and work productively when under deadline and with minimal supervision

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy. Must be a self-starter with reliable follow-through. Ability to prioritize work and complete projects in a timely manner. Must be exceptionally and consistently well-organized. Willingness to work above and beyond regular hours, including evenings and weekends as events require. Black out days for time-off apply during the CSRI program. Moderate level of physical activity required.
