The Assistant Director position is part of the Undergraduate Admissions Office team, focused on helping the University meet its goals of enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position is responsible for the recruitment, evaluation, selection, and yield of applicants.
Duties include leading, managing, organizing, and staffing recruitment events and programs; interviewing students; providing counseling and service to students and families about the University and the college decision process; reviewing and evaluating applications to render admission decisions; and developing and maintaining relationships with school counselors and others. This position represents the University and office internally and externally.
The Assistant Director position supports one or more project or program areas within the Admissions Office (as assigned).
Strong professional judgment, initiative, flexibility, and a collaborative mindset are required.
The position will be located in an open office environment. As conditions merit, this position may be required to work remotely.Travel and attendance at many events on and off campus is necessary, which may include international travel. Travel expectation is six to eight weeks per year. Must transport recruitment materials to high school visits, college fairs, and group meetings. Work outside of normal business hours is necessary throughout the year. Position requires heavy use of the computer including an electronic application reading system in the office and at home. Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities Â
Manages recruitment territory that involves interacting with students, parents, and counselors at high school visits, college fairs, panels, and college recruitment. Works closely with high school counselors and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to develop strong relationships for the University. Excellent communication skills and knowledge about the University, St. Louis, and admissions are critical. Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times as a representative of the University.
Application Evaluation and Selection Process
Reviews and evaluates applications and participate on committees to make admissions recommendations and decisions aligned with institutional goals. Confidentiality and thoughtful consideration of applicants are a must. Must have the ability to work independently following admissions guidelines; lead and participate in discussions and decision-making processes; keep pace with reading expectations; and meet all deadlines throughout the reading season.
Conducts information sessions about the University and Admissions for prospective students and families. Provides customer service by answering phone calls and emails from prospective students and parents. Interviews prospective students who visit campus. Answers questions about the University, admissions, and St. Louis.
Works with faculty, deans, and representatives from other departments at the University to support recruitment and enrollment efforts. Must be able to make mature decisions and recommendations.
Manages or supports project or program area(s) as assigned. If applicable, maintain program budget(s) based on guidelines set by departmentâ™s budget leadership. Collaborates with colleagues, supervisor, and departmental leadership (as needed) to ensure project success.
Performs other duties as assigned.
One to three years of higher education or related experience, preference given to admissions.
Previous presentation experience.
Previous project management.
Fluency in more than one language

$39,300.00 - $65,000.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
