Function/Duties of Position
The Director of Research Applications and Technology Support is a key IT leadership position in the OHSU Information Technology Group (ITG). ITG's mission is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. This IT leader will provide strategic vision and operational plans to successfully lead, develop, and support enterprise service models which will support new service practices and cutting-edge information technology for research while delivering outstanding service. The role will be charged with cultivating relationships throughout OHSU with business units and stakeholder groups and is a key voice in articulating the research needs of the research community. This position is responsible for providing leadership on strategic information technology with a focus on key initiatives related to clinical research informatics, high performance computing (HPC), and administrative research applications. The position will support the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, and Public Health working with all levels of the organization, including Vice Presidents, Administrators, Department Directors, Managers, Faculty and Staff and specifically with the CRIO, CHIO, RDA Directors, and Director of Computational Biology. This position may also work with vendors on design, development and implementation of applications and systems on multiple technical platforms. A sample of technologies the teams use consist of RHEL, Linux, Slurm, Isilon, Lustre, Ceph, MS SQL server, Oracle, Visual Studio, GitHub, Globus, Huron Research Applications and other custom applications.The position will provide excellent customer service in achieving the following objectives: (1) ensure complex systems support for current users and future operations, (2) evaluate processes, user requirements, and system functionality to assist in the selection and implementation of complex systems, and (3) organize, monitor, and deliver information technology solutions according to project schedule, often through teams that do not report directly to them. In addition, will work with members of the research mission to ensure provided services are meeting current and future needs.
Required Qualifications
Education:Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field with experience in IT.Experience:
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible management positions in information technology.
- Minimum 2 years experience managing an IT development and support team with complex applications and technologies in an enterprise environment with substantial cybersecurity requirements.
- 10 years experience in a complex technology environment, including hands-on experience in project mangement, process improvement initiatives, budgeting and financial reporting.
- Proven experience in the successful delivery of complex IT projects in the areas of systems administration, research computing, high-performance computing, and applications development.
- Experience addressing regulatory compliance requirements such as HIPAA and Accessibility.
- Evidence of a proven track record of establishing effective working relationships, and building trust to accomplish work within an academic healthcare setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes.

- Broad range of knowledge of applications and vendors pertaining to design, development, and support of research and high performance computing technologies.
- Effective leadership of highly-skilled technical personnel in overseeing the development and implementation of applications.

- Skilled in vendor contract negotiation.
- Ability to influence, motivate and provide clear direction.
- Skilled in overseeing multiple projects with budget responsibilities.
- Demonstrated skill in managing operational and capital budgets.
- Significant organizational and management skills, specifically within a large organization.
- IT project/program management experience to successfully manage small and large-scale applications projects
- Must have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both verbal and written.
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, while being collaborative in resolving problems.
- Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person.
- Must have a thorough understanding of industry standard principles of project management such as those defined in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (published by Project Management Institute).
- Must have knowledge of complex applications and systems.
