Position Summary
We invite applications for an Academic Specialist-Outreach-Fixed Term position in the CREATE for STEM Institute at Michigan State University. CREATE for STEM Institute is a collaboration between the colleges of Education, Natural Science, Engineering, and Lyman-Briggs residential college in coordination with the Office of the Provost. Our goals are to improve teaching and learning in the STEM disciplines for students from grades K-16 through research and development efforts.
Academic Specialist-Outreach-Fixed Term appointment will be a one-year position (renewal based on funding). Work will include:
- Providing professional learning for elementary teachers around instructional and formative assessment strategies.
- Planning elementary science curriculum materials related to PBL (project-based-learning)
- Planning and presenting professional learning sessions for elementary teachers enacting curriculum.
- Supporting elementary teachers using ML-PBL curriculum materials.
- Communicating with teacher research participants to schedule and conduct virtual classroom visits, generate running records, process notes, and enter observation scores into a database.
- Collecting data and participating in research on the processes and outcomes of the professional learning.
- Working collaboratively with other faculty to seek external funding to support research.
- Making presentations about work at conferences, both in and out-of-state.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Science education or sciences
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in the sciences or science education. Candidates must have demonstrated background in the design and development of science project-based learning at the elementary level, teacher professional learning or teacher education at the elementary level, and community engagement.
Desired Qualifications
Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Science Education with a strong background in a science discipline are preferred. In addition, candidates with knowledge of mixed-methods research, including multi-level modeling and coding of classroom observation data are preferred. Special consideration will be given to candidates with international experience and/or experience implementing a project-based curriculum.
