Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.
Division Overview
The HITS Enterprise Data and Information Services (EDIS) division collaborates with partners throughout Michigan Medicine, the U-M, and the state of Michigan, to create data resources which can be used across the enterprises. Their work enables enterprise analytics which supports strategic, data-driven decisions by leaders, researchers, clinicians, educators, and administrators. EDIS provides services across the clinical, education, research, and administrative mission domains and is organized around the following core capabilities: Data Foundations, Analytics, Health Information Exchange, and Enterprise Data Solutions.
Be part of the exciting and challenging Cost Analytics and Decision Intelligence team at Michigan Medicine and have a direct impact on the tripartite missions of education, research, and patient care! HITS Enterprise Data and Information Services is seeking a qualified candidate who is excited to execute on our data management strategy ensuring rapid delivery of projects including developing and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes, and delivery of analytical data sets.
The qualified candidate would:
- Be responsible for configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining vendor ETL and Data Warehouse tools
- Be responsible for configuring, maintaining, and enhancing data source feeds to and from vendor data warehouse
- Assist with the design and delivery of data models which power Business Intelligence and Analytics initiatives, dashboards, scorecards, and reporting for Michigan Medicine
- Design, develop, modify, test, document, and implement data warehouse data sets, reports, and queries
- Create and follow ETL development standards, methodologies, and best practices
- Become proficient in various ETL tools used to provide solutions
- Provide training, guidance, and assistance to staff to successfully accomplish objectives. Provide content information for training and performance support. Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with others to identify solutions that meet the needs of the customer and the organization. Participate in planning; recommend priorities.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of business and administrative processes
- Effectively communicate with management, co-workers, teams, business offices, and subject matter experts
- Partner with, or act as, a consultant for other information services teams including software development, database services, and delivery support
Requirements for Senior Position:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience
- 5 to 7 years of systems analysis/programming in a business environment
Requirements for Intermediate Position:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience
- 3 to 5 years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment
- Master's Degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- Experience with ETL tools, preferably Informatica or MS SSIS
- Experience with dimensional and normalized data structures
- Familiarity with healthcare and/or financial data such as the Epic Clarity data model
- Experience with supporting analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives
- Experience with relational database systems such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience leveraging Restful API’s, No-SQL DB’s and flat file processing
- Experience with determining project objectives and requirements, anticipating and solving problems, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse activities
- Excellent organizational, research, analytical, and independent problem-solving skills
- Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience in data modeling and modeling tools such as ER/Studio
- Experience with agile development or other project management methodologies
- Experience with development processes and tools, version control systems, test driven development
- Experience with facilitating group discussions and other collaborative efforts
- Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required
- May require on-call availability on team rotation outside of normal working hours
- May occasionally require work during non-business hours and on weekends
- Requires maintaining own high-speed residential internet connectivity service
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
