The purpose of this position is to support the mission goals and objectives of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). The AAEO Director is responsible for managing the department's staff and consultants, attending meetings, making presentations, and performing other functions on behalf of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity (AAEO) and OHSU. The AAEO Director and Title IX Coordinator is expected to demonstrate leadership in the organization and demonstrates skill in collaborative teamwork and creative problem-solving. The AAEO Director is able to act with sound judgment and a high degree of integrity.
Additional functions include developing and managing affirmative action and equal opportunity policy and programs; develop training, policy, processes and programs that protect and address civil rights complaints under applicable laws and regulations (including, but not limited to: Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, ADA, ADEA and Executive Order 11246) and OHSU policies. The AAEO Director and Title IX Coordinator collaborates with and provides advice to University leadership, managers, Human Resources and others regarding civil rights and compliance matters. The AAEO Director and Title IX Coordinator is responsible for developing and leading proactive civil rights training, participating in community outreach to diverse populations and university-wide diversity initiatives. The position requires strong interpersonal skills, a high level of personal energy, and the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders across the organization. The AAEO Director and Title IX Coordinator provides neutral support to all members of the OHSU community, including students, staff, faculty and volunteers.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor
Minimum four years of experience managing affirmative action and equal opportunity activities in large, multi-faceted organizations or equivalent human resources, compliance, legal or other experience.
Minimum four years of investigative experience involving civil rights complaints or equivalent human resources, compliance, legal or other experience.
Minimum three years experience working at an institution of higher education and with students.
Minimum three years experience in facilitating or mediating disputes and providing prohibited discrimination training or equivalent human resources, compliance, legal or other experience.
Minimum three years experience working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated leadership, collaborative teamwork, people development, sound judgment, high degree of integrity and creative problem solving.

Knowledge of federal, state and local civil rights laws and regulations.
Knowledge of equal opportunity and affirmative action laws, regulations and processes.
Knowledge of labor and employment law.
Knowledge and skill to independently conduct, plan, organize and lead collaborative investigations/facilitations, and preparation of reports and recommendations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively speak and write in a clear and concise manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening abilities coupled with the skill to analyze complex issues and present clear and logical recommendations.
Ability and skills to analyze and interpret problems while developing strategies for conflict resolution.
Fluent with technology, including but not limited to the use of computers and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of and ability to manage compliance reports such as the Affirmative Action Plan, the Faculty Salary Equity Review, and the VETS-100 report.
Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to effectively work with hostile and emotional individuals in a compassionate, professional and courteous manner and to diffuse and manage situations involving intense conflict.
