Job Summary:
With supervision from the Assistant Director of Population Sciences and direction from the Faculty Director of Outreach at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, the candidate will work across the institution and the state to coordinate and evaluate community outreach and engagement (COE) efforts. The outreach specialist will work closely with leadership, UW faculty, and across communities to ensure our outreach, educational and research programs target the needs of communities across Wisconsin and align with the NCI's direction for outreach.
Successful candidates will have a strong interest in population health and disparities as they relate to the cancer care continuum, as well as, interest with community outreach and engagement and community based participatory research. They will have an understanding of how community outreach and engagement impacts communities, while also allowing Carbone to understand community needs. The incumbent will have understanding of project management, evaluation, grant writing, and research methodology, health systems. In particular, the candidate will have personal initiative, ability to work independently and in a timely manner, and strong organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
20% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
10% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
15% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
20% Identifies, promotes and maintains internal partnerships with Faculty/Scientists to support research integration into Wisconsin Communities

Education:
Preferred Bachelor's Degree Public health, population health, public policy, epidemiology, or related health or social science field required.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of work experience related to Community Outreach, education and training, health literacy or public health required. Two or more years of experience preferred. - Demonstrated ability to write clearly and to speak effectively in a group setting required. - Experience writing reports, grants or publications preferred. - Experience developing and managing projects with multiple community stakeholders preferred. - Experience coordinating multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines with limited supervision is strongly preferred. - Experience developing literacy informed health education materials and training others to conduct health education is desired. - Ability to communicate effectively through written and oral communication - Background working in or within diverse organizations or communities preferred - Ability to travel around Dane, and surrounding counties for outreach events. - Ability to travel nationally (conference) one time a year, if necessary. - Attention to detail; familiarity with standard computer software and social media tools - Ability to work collaboratively with staff, faculty, administration, marketing, IT, finance etc. preferred.
