Job Description
We are:
The Department of Pathology at MSK is a dedicated, diverse group known for their expertise, resourcefulness, and compassion! Working in a highly motivating environment, the group receives a complex variety of more than 110,000 specimens annually and performs more than 50,000 molecular diagnostic tests.
We have more than 600 staff members are spread across four laboratory services: surgical pathology, hematopathology, cytology, and molecular diagnostics. Pathology provides laboratory support for the Mohs micrographic and dermatologic surgery program and supports MSK's research mission through the division of experimental pathology. We're also advancing the field of digital pathology through our slide scanning and computational pathology efforts. All of our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, such as ThermoFisher senior grossing stations with sophisticated camera optics and touch screens, laser capture microdissection capabilities, telecytology remote microscopy, advanced flow cytometry panels, and Illumina sequencing instruments.
We are currently seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist who is R&D minded to work in a clinical laboratory setting in the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Development Lab in the Department of Pathology.
You will:
- Section paraffin and frozen tissue specimens as requested
- Basic histology techniques (e.g. embed, process tissue)
- Primarily perform automated Immunohistochemistry (IHC) - employing different stainer platforms (e.g. Leica, Ventana).
- Perform in situ hybridization (ISH) and Hematoxylin Eosin staining for evaluating and analyzing tissues
- Assist in the development of new IHC and ISH protocols and techniques
- Test and validate new antibodies for CLIA approved IHC protocols.
- Analyze new equipment
- Construct various types of multi tissue blocks (MTB)
- Maintain necessary records
You are:
- R&D minded with an interest in Immunohistochemistry (IHC), histology, and pathology
- Team player
- Interested in learning new methods
You need:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field with knowledge of biology, chemistry
- Ability to perform dilutions and laboratory calculations
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong computer skills including working with databases
- NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license preferred
- NYS Laboratory Technician or Certified Histology Technician will also be considered
- Eligibility to obtain NYS license required
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM
