Job Description:
The College Lab Assistant 2, Computer Application option, functions as the Digital Literacy Specialist for the Academic Success Center (ASC) at Minneapolis College. This position promotes student success by coordinating digital literacy training, The Digital Literacy Specialist provides ongoing expertise in promoting digital literacy as it applies to the wide variety of courses offered at the college. The incumbent works as part of a team to coordinate the daily operation of the Academic Success Center and its Computer Lab and provides lead work for a rotation of digital literacy and technology tutors consisting of student employees.
Required Qualifications:
Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree or relevant licensure in computer applications, specifically in a field related to digital literacy
AND
One (1) year of teaching/tutoring experience in computer applications, specifically digital literacy, at the high school level or above
OR
Four (4) years of work experience in computer applications, specifically digital literacy, where no degree/certificate/diploma/licensure is required
OR
An equivalent combination of education and work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Expert use of Microsoft Office; Microsoft Office Certification
Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat
Computer support or educational setting experience
Customer service experience
Excellent verbal and written skills
Experience in D2L, and commercial learning management systems
Demonstrate an effort to improve cultural competence and actively takes steps to include diversity training or professional development
Ability to apply knowledge of course content and tutoring techniques to support student success
Human relations skills sufficient to assist and motivate students from a variety of ethnic, cultural, academic, economic and social backgrounds
Ability to communicate effectively with faculty members, counselors, administrators and related personnel regarding student needs, department needs and other concerns
Ability to apply knowledge of college policies and procedure to assist students
Ability to acquire knowledge and curriculum changes, developments in the writing field, and tutoring

Placement within the salary range for this College Lab Assistant 2 position is determined on the basis of relevant experience and in accordance with the 2021 – 2023 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) labor contract with the State of Minnesota.
