POSITION DETAILS

The CIO will lead the College???s commitment to innovation and will play a critical role in the development of a culture that embraces the strategic use of technology to advance its overall mission, vision, and goals. The position scope is inclusive of all divisions and necessitates a high level of familiarity and coordination with various constituents as well as a commitment to meeting the diverse needs that exist within an institution of higher education.
The ideal candidate will be a visionary. They will be a collaborative agent of change with a demonstrated ability to plan and lead a digital transformation within a large, complex organization. The CIO is responsible for anticipating and maintaining a vision for future technology needs, and for recommending strategies, priorities, projects, and infrastructure that support student and employee success.

As part of this commitment, the CIO will identify strategies to simplify and improve student and employee-facing business processes, improve customer service across all areas of the college, and address individual and institutional technological deficiencies in support of becoming a more student-ready and employee-friendly institution. They will streamline and coordinate the use of existing University-wide and College-specific systems, solutions and infrastructure to increase adoption rates and identify cost-savings.
Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Marketing & Communication Officer, the CIO will oversee the Office of Information Technology and Academic Computing Center. They will be responsible for coordinating and leading a digital transformation in support of the College???s five-year strategic plan. In addition to overseeing personnel, budget, operations, and communications, they will:
Lead and manage all administrative and academic computing, networking, security, support services, programming services, and telecommunications.
Devise the institution???s information and instructional technology strategy, budget, and alignment with the campus mission, goals, and objectives.
Work collaboratively and pragmatically with a broad range of stakeholders to develop and implement effective IT solutions and maintain a highly responsive IT support system.
Regularly audit and assess new and existing security risks and recommend and implement strategies for continuous improvement; develop disaster recovery and business continuity plan
Identify and implement data-driven strategies that add value and reduce operating costs; streamline and coordinate the use of existing University-wide and College-specific systems, solutions and infrastructure to increase adoption rates and identify cost-savings.
Develop a training unit responsible for enabling employees to fully utilize and integrate productivity software and solutions into workplace operations (Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, etc.)
Foster innovation, prioritize technology initiatives, manage current and develop future IT systems and services in alignment with the College???s strategic and operational goals.
Incorporate innovative practices into plans and strategies and collaborate with other College and University executives, and outside organizations as needed, to develop appropriate policy and acquire resources.??
In collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs, ensure classroom technology and student technology labs operate seamlessly, effectively, in alignment with the College???s strategic and operational goals, and are protected from cybersecurity threats.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students; practical experience with recent developments in campus technology issues, effective oral and written communication capabilities, a commitment to customer service, and excellent presentation skills;
Extensive executive-level IT leadership experience in higher education or similar large, complex organization
Demonstrated IT leadership experience with IT strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management and the ways and methods by which technology supports the teaching-learning environment;
Significant experience in all aspects of information technology planning, development and implementation, including but not limited to enterprise resource planning, systems architecture, telecommunications, database administration, web development and security and compliance issues;
Extensive experience protecting data from threats, including cybercrime and unauthorized use;
Broad technical knowledge and skills, with the ability to demonstrate this thorough knowledge and understanding of current computing, telecommunications and emerging technologies;
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with an attention to details; Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
Demonstrated experience and skill in negotiating with vendors, contractors, and others;
High energy level, enjoyment of challenges and a fast-paced environment, and a record of self- motivation and personal initiative.
Profession certification(s) related to the field.
