Job Duties:
The post-award research manager has responsibility for CET research awards and reports directly to the CET Associate Dean for Research (ADR). This individual functions independently on a day-to-day basis, communicating with faculty and admins, managing post-award expenditures, carrying out transactions, monitoring cost share, and coordinating time-and-effort reporting. The manager leads activities related to project close-out and ensures that principal investigators submit annual and final project reports to meet sponsor deadlines.
On the project management side, research manager will provide active support for sponsored program execution, including award management and research accounting and reporting. Will assist the Dean and the Associate Dean for Research of CET in strategic planning focus on research administration, providing data and insights that support executive level steering.
The specific job-related duties are:
Oversees, executes and manages all transactional, budgetary, and regulatory aspects of CET grants, including hiring documents of grants personnel for College office and budget assistant for budget reporting. Liaises with faculty principal investigators engaged in funded projects, departmental offices where day-to-day transactions are executed, the Dean's office, and a range of central university officers responsible for post-award grant administration. Manages internally- and externally-funded summer salary awards, creates summer salary calculators, and request grant approval before entering EPAF for summer salary. Meets with PIs initially and regularly to review award terms and conditions, review grant expenditures and spending plans, and resolve and troubleshoot problems. Maintains databases of awards and current effort commitments, including cost-sharing commitments. Maintains grant financial records and dashboards for CET. Works with college/department admins in purchasing for research using grant or startup funds, ensuring that departments move funds into HERD Org for spending from ECU funding sources. Coordinates with admins to place orders and obtain documentation for all purchases and orders. Notifies faculty of continuation/renewal due dates and any need to revise effort allocations. Tracks the timely and appropriate establishment of new sponsored research accounts; provides regular financial reports and projects on awards and award accounts. Assures and monitors compliance with University and sponsor regulations, policies and guidelines. Prepares regular updates and reports for the Dean, Associate Dean, Chairs and PIs. Works with Grants office for Effort Reporting requirements for each PI. Assists in the development and oversight of policies and procedures related to post-award grants management. Identifies and resolves operational issues. Oversees development and delivery of training and coaching for SHRA post-award staff within the unit level within CET. Serves on institutional committees and participates in institution-wide special projects. Develop and oversee policies and procedures related to post-award grants manager as well as identify and resolve operational issues. Initiate actions necessary to efficiently manage personnel-related tasks for grant-paid Provide subject matter expertise in the areas of national research trends and legislation. Maintain in-depth knowledge of federal and State regulations, including 2 CFR 200, FAR, North Carolina Laws and UNC System policies; and in-depth knowledge of cost accounting and audit standards. Foster a culture of collaborative research administration for the Institute, developing solutions for post-award issues in all areas of project management, award administrative and financial management, effort reporting, revenue management, project close-out and audit. Foster a culture of continuous improvement for faculty and staff through professional development and education in research administration best practices and trends. Provide faculty post-award Research administration support, including grant-related personnel hiring and other aspects of personnel on projects, incentives and awards for graduate students (i.e. honorariums or stipends), navigation of the PI portal and other sources for assistance with reconciliations and forecasting of project expenditures. Provide direction and oversight for faculty and staff for the legal and financial administration of awards. Participate effectively in review and development of institutional policy and procedures to ensure application of best practices. Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
