General Purpose: The MICA Game Lab Manager is responsible for the administrative, research, promotional and daily support of the MICA Game Lab and Game Design BFA. The manager provides technical and design expertise to students and faculty through curricular engagement and co-curricular initiatives ensuring the highest level of game, play and interactive research.
Summary of Essential Functions: â¢ Help develop, organize and occasionally lead game and play related research projects and sponsored projects. â¢ Help organize the departmentâs events, workshops and speaker series and promote these events through the labâs social media accounts, website and in coordination with MICAâs office of communications. â¢ Serve as a subject matter expert within game design and work with all faculty and students within the area to help advance their practice. â¢ Manage the departmental budgets in coordination with the departmental leadership and make necessary purchases of equipment, tools, and materials to ensure the studio is fully equipped. â¢ Train, schedule, and manage work study students. â¢ Oversee the operations and maintenance of the MICA Game Lab and Game Design BFA ensuring that all equipment functions effectively and safely, the facilities are clean and efficient, and supplies are stocked and available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: â¢ Conduct research to identify improvements that advance the capabilities of the Game Lab within the discipline. â¢ Develop game and play related projects in coordination with the departmental leadership and Game Design faculty. â¢ Work closely with the labâs Game Designer in Residence to provide project and research support when needed. â¢ Develop and conduct workshops, with support from the Director of MICA Game Lab, on relevant game and interactive processes for undergraduate students. â¢ Maintaining the MICA Game Lab website and social media accounts. â¢ Assist in maintaining the Game Design of the MICA website. â¢ Track open-source and commercial technologies related to game development and interaction and provide recommendations regarding software, tools, and emerging technologies â¢ Oversee daily operations of the studio, which includes management and organization of the physical departmental space. â¢ Manage the end of semester turnover of the studio to ensure successful start-up of the following semester. â¢ Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: â¢ Excellent understanding of current Game Design theory and practice. â¢ Excellent oral and written communication skills â¢ Excellent organizational skills â¢ Ability to balance multiple deadlines and perform many tasks simultaneously â¢ Ability to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty â¢ Ability to work independently and take initiative in projects â¢ Ability to work with both Mac and PC systems
Minimum Qualifications: â¢ BFA or a four year degree. â¢ Background in game design, play design or related field.
Preferred Qualifications: â¢ Masterâs degree in Game Design, Interactive Art or other related field. â¢ A proven track record of completed team based projects. â¢ Project management experience. â¢ 2+ yearsâ experience working within the game design field. â¢ Software; Unity, Maya, Adobe Suite â¢ Post-secondary teaching experience. â¢ A personal practice in game design, games as art or related field. â¢ Basic knowledge of electronics and experience working with Arduino â¢ Extensive programming experience with Unity using "C" numbers â¢ Experience with video and image editing software such as Adobe Premiere and Photoshop â¢ Experience with online blogging or content management systems such as WordPress â¢ Strong visual design skills
