Two years relevant administrative assistant experience or experience in a related field. An applicant with experience in higher education is a plus.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs administrative assistant duties for the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences and/or the College of Health Sciences.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (soon to be Human Sciences on 9/1/22) is one of three departments and the school of nursing in the College of Health Sciences. The Department includes four undergraduate programs: interior design, food service management, food science and nutrition, and an online program in fashion merchandising in addition to our graduate program in dietetics. The department is located in the Margaret Lea Houston Building. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at SHSU seeks to recruit and retain a diverse staff. Duties and responsibilities for this position include:
Administrative Associate I is the front-facing representative of the department. In this position, the assistant will perform administrative support to an academic teaching department by providing reception services and managing daily interactions (in-person, email, and phone) with visitors to the department's administrative suite.
Assists by answering questions and providing information to support the work of the faculty, assistant to the chair, and department chair as needed.
Oversees online course override process and delegating requests to appropriate program leaders and/or chair for review and approval. Assists with processing course overrides in Banner and addressing general inquiries by students.
Maintains department supplies and technology inventory. Assist faculty with lab supply orders.
Oversees department student workers and manages their work schedules and tasks.
Works with the department scholarship committee on the annual award process and preparation of certificates for students.
Compiles, tracks, and reviews data and reports. Attends meetings and takes notes and prepares minutes. Prepares, reviews, revises and distributes documents and correspondence. Orders and maintains supply inventory.
Helps to organize and conduct departmental meetings and events, as directed, by securing space, equipment, food, preparing invitations, announcements, agendas, and packets, and assisting with the event as it occurs.
Assists with scheduling the use of classrooms and conference rooms, department facilities, or meeting rooms, and maintaining the security of classrooms, labs, equipment, and records.
Provides weekly support to our foods lab for the food science and nutrition undergraduate lab courses. This includes ordering and personal travel to pick up food requests at HEB that are submitted weekly by faculty to prepare for teaching labs. This position requires food lab set-up and tear-down/clean-up at the direction of the faculty in support of the lab courses.
The associate will provide weekly administrative support to both the undergraduate and graduate programs in nutrition and dietetics in compliance with our ACEND accreditation.
Oversight of the department's computer lab and serving as a liaison with I.T. for addressing issues that arise from faculty and student including equipment service, repair, and replacement.
Oversees departmental key lockbox and department computer lab locker rentals for interior design students.
Maintains department bulletin boards, digital display content, posting of classroom and room use schedules, and manages the use of department display cases.
Remains competent and current by attending professional development courses, conferences, software training classes, and courses and/or training sessions as directed by the Department Chair or required by the University.
Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Essential skills in communication, documentation, organization, reliability, and good judgment in decision making and performing daily work.
Performs other related duties in the department and/or college as assigned.
