Summer Internship Administrator
Short-term Temporary Contract: June 1, 2022-August 17, 2022

The Davis Museum at Wellesley College seeks an experienced Summer Internship Administrator (SIA) to supervise an eight week program scheduled to run between June 21 and August 12, 2022.

The Davis Museum Summer Internship program provides a paid opportunity for students to gain broad exposure to museum operations, acquire an overview of museum practices and policies, and gain marketable professional skills and experience. Interns have unique access to operations at one of the most acclaimed academic museums in the country. The SIA will finalize planning for the internship, implement the program activities, advise and mentor all participating students, directly supervise two student projects, and prepare a final report that incorporates student feedback.

The seven students participating in the 2022 program have already been hired: 1 Internship Coordinator, 1 Education Intern, 3 Curatorial Interns, 1 Collections Intern, and 1 Digital Marketing Intern. The SIA will supervise the projects of the Internship Coordinator and the Education Intern. Other Davis staff will supervise the projects of the Curatorial Interns, Collections Intern, and Digital Marketing Intern.

The SIA will finalize the internship calendar, and maintain good communication with Davis colleagues and the interns about any changes to the program. They will work with Wellesley Career Education to assure that the Davis Summer Internship Program remains within the Wellesley Signature Internship guidelines. The SIA will manage the budget of the program. They
will organize and lead both in-person and virtual field trips to museums in the Northeast and nationwide, including a multi-day visit to cultural institutions in New York City. Other Davis staff will also attend and support these field trips.

The SIA will meet with the Internship Coordinator and Education Intern individually at least once a week, and with the entire cohort as a group once a week. They will interact regularly with all interns everyday, will organize several skill-building workshops for the intern cohort, and will be expected to work in the office Mondays-Fridays, 9am-5pm, with an hour break for lunch each day. The SIA will facilitate reflections and self-assessments from the interns throughout the summer and, with the Program’s conclusion, will write a brief report on the 2022 program based on their own experiences and the student self-evaluations.

The Summer Internship Supervisor will report to the Assistant Director of Curatorial Affairs.

Requirements:

• Administrative oversight and general management skills, particularly with calendars, scheduling,
• and tracking multiple moving parts; managing budgets and processing invoices; higher ed
• context preferred
• Experience managing complex projects and multiple priorities with humor and integrity
• Demonstrated experience and success working with college students
• Clarity in written and verbal communication
• Ability to collaborate with generosity
• Passion for art and museums
