The Manager, Access Control manages the electronic and mechanical access security and surveillance camera systems on the Danforth Campus, including the planning, configuring, installation and development of those systems within the purview of Facilities Planning and Management. This includes responding to system problems and effectively collaborating with others in Facilities, the Campus Police Department, Campus Card Services, security organizations, the Medical School, and the Danforth campus community.
This role develops and administers policies and procedures that serve the campus well while ensuring that the facilities are appropriately secured, monitored, and proper access is granted only to approved individuals.
Additionally, they have oversight of 4-6 direct reports within the Access Control group and they are responsible for master planning to meet the current and future needs of the University. This includes collaborating on planning, costs, security consequences, installation, operation/maintenance, upgrades, etc. of proposed access control and CCTV systems.
Availability 24 hours a day, seven day a week to respond to emergencies. The individual will have a work area in the Millbrook Facilities building. Normal activity would include, but not be limited to, conduct visual inspections, tours, visits, etc. to all parts of the campus and individual buildings, including climbing steps, ladders, inclines, etc. May frequently be required to tour construction sites, contained areas with loud noise or significant dust, flooded or damp areas, etc.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Manages the planning, configuration, installation, system administration, maintenance, etc. of the Danforth/West/North Campus electronic/mechanical access control and surveillance camera systems. Manages the Lockshop operation.
Supervises managers, coordinators, technicians and bargaining unit employees performing various functions including but not limited to administrative and operational activities, responding to service calls, inputting and managing database, configuring and programing access control and CCTV.
Directs use of materials, inventory and budget. Orders supplies, maintains filing system, monitors invoices, change orders, contracts, etc.
Responsible for the database of cardholders, including students, faculty, staff and contract employees.
Provides support for Police Department investigations.Â
Works closely with project managers to ensure projects meet the design criteria, engineering standards and campus needs.
Provides drawing and operations review of access control related projects.
Monitor Access Control related projects through various means including field verification, PM Web, etc.
Identifies new projects to ensure access control systems and monitoring meet industry and campus standards, ensures timely capital renewal, and enhance the campus systems to meet the short and long terms strategic initiatives of the University.Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Communicates effectively with faculty, staff and students to ensure that the configuration, programming and reliability of the access control and camera systems meets the Universityâ™s expectations.
Interacts and coordinates effectively with the administrators of other campus databases, security organizations and other campus entities, including the Medical School campus, for appropriate, efficient access and CCTV coverage for the University.
Prepares/supports access control and surveillance camera schematics, policies and procedures and updates as necessary.
Meets and coordinates with the business managers, department liaisons, or other appropriate campus representatives on service needs, planning and the priorities and type of work to be performed, etc.Â
Interacts with personnel in charge of other University databases which use the University identification card.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelorâ™s degree and ten years or more of experience with security systems.
Knowledge of building codes, as applicable to door access.

Bachelorâ™s degree and at least two years of security access control or related experience. As an alternative to lack of an undergraduate degree, eight years of security access control or related experience is required along with appropriate training course certification.
Proven ability to take a pro-active approach to management with a strong desire to help train workers to have a more active role in the responsibility and management of workload in this area. Ability to promote teamwork in planning and operations.
Proven communication skills to interact effectively and professionally with campus department/building representatives and with other personnel.
Record of accomplishment of exceptional customer relations skills with a commitment to excellence.
Ability to read blue prints, drawings and sketches.
$68,200.00 - $116,600.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
