The Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology is seeking a qPCR Research Technologist who is in charge of performing daily sample extractions, quantitative PCR and digital droplet PCR runs, data analysis, maintenance of PCR robots and inventory of related reagents. The individual will also be responsible for training new lab members in these techniques and answering enquiries from all lab members. The Research technologist is responsible for the organization of all PCR related reagents and all study data.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains detailed working knowledge of all assigned protocols as they relate to sample preparation and PCR applications.
- Maintains electronic or hard copy binder for all samples assessed in each study and accurate data records.
- Maintains quality control records.
- Reports to the PIs and consults with the Laboratory managers.
- Inventory management: monitors supply inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, documents orders upon receipt.
- Initiates the process for equipment repair when needed.
- Demonstrates highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Informs the PI in a timely manner when difficult problems, unusual development or activities occur.
- Demonstrates the ability to relate well and work well with all levels of staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
- Participates in the development and implementation of lab goals and objectives.
- Participates in problem-solving process based in comprehensive analysis of situations while demonstrating the use of a logical, reasoned, factual and systematic approach.
- Recognizes limitations and seeks help from appropriate resources when needed.
- Maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment, e.g. calibrating, alignment.
- Uses various software applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision once trained.
- Additional lab related responsibilities as required by PI.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in basic molecular biology lab practices.
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basic PCR techniques.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and oral communication.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- The ability to work independently and reliably with minimal supervision.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
