The Digital Media Manager will promote effective teaching through digital media across campus. The position will be shared between the Center for Teaching (CFT) and the Office of Digital Education (ODE). Through the Center for Teaching, the Digital Media Manager will oversee the CFT's digital media services, which include two studio spaces and a digital media specialist. These services are intended to help faculty and other instructors create and use digital media, particularly video and audio, in their teaching. Through the Office of Digital Education, the Digital Media Manager will build highly engaging online learning experiences using digital media. As the ODE expert on video production and editing, the Digital Media Manager will lead the end-to-end production of high-quality video-based learning materials for online educational programs at Vanderbilt. The Digital Media Manager will work collaboratively with staff from both the CFT and ODE as well as others involved in supporting teaching through digital media at the university.
The Office of Digital Education (ODE) is a central unit dedicated to enabling the successful delivery of Vanderbilt's online and hybrid programs. ODE sits within the Office of Faculty Affairs. This role is line managed by the Director of ODE who reports to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. ODE works closely with the Office of the Chancellor, academic leadership in the Provost's Office and in the schools and colleges, the Office of Data Governance and Strategy, and other administrative units across campus.
The Center for Teaching (CFT) promotes university teaching that leads to meaningful student learning. By helping members of the Vanderbilt community become more effective teachers, the Center for Teaching supports the educational mission of the university and enhances the learning experiences of its students. The CFT offers a variety of professional development programs and opportunities for faculty and graduate students at Vanderbilt, and CFT senior staff have excellent relationships with individual instructors and with departments, programs, and schools.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing the Center for Teaching's digital media services, including audio-video equipment, studio spaces, and software used by CFT staff and by the Vanderbilt teaching community.
- Supervising the Center for Teaching's digital media staff, who provide training and support for Vanderbilt faculty and others creating digital media at the CFT's studio spaces.
- Designing and facilitating professional development events for faculty and other instructors, with a particular emphasis creating digital media for use in teaching, both for the entire campus community and for particular departments and units.
- Providing and overseeing digital media production services in support of CFT offerings, including website administration, multimedia content creation, and graphic design for online and print publicity.
- Leading digital media consultations with faculty developing new online courses through ODE, providing expertise on video production best practices, scripting, and visuals.
- Overseeing the ODE production process for online video lectures, directing video shoots, managing set design, and coaching faculty on-set.
- Managing post-production for high-quality video-based learning materials developed through ODE, leading video editing, motion graphics and animation creation.
Qualifications - A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.
- Further education in a relevant field is preferred.
- At least 4 years of relevant experience is necessary.
- Significant digital media production experience, including video and audio editing, is required.
- Advanced proficiency in video editing software is necessary.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community is necessary.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information is necessary.
- Familiarity with the academic mission of a research university is preferred.
- Experience managing teams or personnel is preferred.
