The Academic Services Development (AS Devs) creates innovative academic products and partnerships, capturing new audiences and evaluating new instructors alongside the performance of new offerings. AS Devs regularly engages with cross industry, Silicon Valley stakeholders to innovate how content is cataloged, packaged and delivered. This involves the building out of new processes and facilitating the selection of new tools.
The Academic Services department maintains existing content, hires new instructors, schedules courses, renews certificate programs, and evaluates instructor and program performance. Our certificate programs match the economic demand of various industries, ranging from engineering to business, and education to bioscience.

ucsc-extension.edu JOB SUMMARYThe Program Manager of Educational Services serves as 'lead' program support specialist to assist in the development and delivery of innovative academic products, and identifies new opportunities for the organization. The incumbent exercises judgment in recommending methods and techniques for academic product identification and delivery, instructional support and improvement, and academic product assessment.
The incumbent works on complex public education program issues, where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation and understanding of organizational strategies and business objectives.
In order to meet enrollment and reputational goals, the incumbent possesses strong consensus building skills to promote information exchange amongst internal and external constituencies, as well as cross-functional collaborations. This position requires flexibility, initiative, strong resourcefulness, the ability to self-start, the ability to identify and respond to stakeholder requests, and the willingness and ability to solve problems.
The incumbent uses advanced technical expertise, accredited and / or certification public educational program concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex program issues and needs assessment initiatives. JOB DUTIES30% - Academic Product Development and Maintenance - Project Management - develops project plans including goals, deliverables, resources, budget and timelines for launches of products, services or enhancements of medium scope, size, impact, and budget.
- Uses considerable discretion to determine methods and procedures for current and new course offerings and topics.
- Assists with the planning and development of programs and curriculum.
- Evaluates and adjusts course curriculum through student evaluations and levels of interest shown.
- Participates in cross-functional teams for assigned deliverables.
- Obtains supervisor approval for collaborative agreements (internal and external) prior to executing process, product, and partnership changes.
- Acts as product / service liaison across the organization and to external agencies and customers to ensure effective production, delivery and operation of new products, services and / or enhancements.
- Ensures the preparation and maintenance of documentation including end-user documentation and release notes.
- May be responsible for a segment of a product.
20% - Partnership Development - Participates in the identification of additional opportunities for value added product / service delivery based on customer / client / advisory group interaction and feedback.
- Assists with identifying prospective program partnerships and tool vendors by conducting due diligence.
- Assists with drafting agreements (SOW, MSA, MOU).
20% - Instructor Lifecycle - Recruits, selects, orients, evaluates and supervises qualified accredited and / or certificate instructors.
- Responsible for instructor onboarding and management.
20% - Curriculum / Enrollment Management / Evaluation and Assessment - Responsible for course scheduling, management, and lifecycle.
- Provides periodic progress reports outlining key activities and outcomes toward achieving overall goals.
- Reports on program and partnership metrics / key performance indicators and provides corresponding analysis.
- Recommends methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to design, financial, marketing, or administrative problems.
- Assists with establishing evaluation criteria for measuring desired results and impact.
10% - Marketing / Communications / Outreach - Participates in marketing and professional outreach activities and informational campaigns to raise awareness of product or service.
- Participates in the identification and evaluation of new technologies and industry trends to determine if and how they are applicable to current products or services.
- Participates in technical discussions with advisory groups and other customers / clients.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 3-7 years of previous product management / development and working knowledge of product development experience, best practices, concepts, requirements analysis, pricing strategies, short-term and long-term sales forecasts, production scheduling, standards and processes.
- Experience with Business to Consumer (B2C) concepts and methods.
- Experience with product / project management from conception to implementation.
- Experience in corporate, internal / external, and potential partner outreach.
- Ability to identify key issues critical to the organization's need and the success of a desired product, service and enhancement.
- Ability to research, collect, and analyze targeted information to use in determining product options or alternatives.
- Ability to conduct market research strategies / go-to market via competitive analyses.
