Position Summary:
As a member of the School of Social Sciences, the incumbent is tasked with upholding and exemplifying excellence in the University's core competencies-- job mastery, goal accomplishment, enterprise contribution and innovation-- while representing the Directors, Center, Dean and the School of Social Sciences to members of the campus, UC system and the community at large. The Center for Population, Inequality, and Policy (CPIP) --which advances research and policy--seeks a talented and motivated individual with experience in research, policy and communications outreach, and program administration. Reporting to the Co-Directors of CPIP, the Research and Policy Center Coordinator has overall responsibility for coordinating, developing, and strengthening the activities of the Center. The incumbent will be responsible for developing activities and programs that encourage grant-writing and research--especially work that cuts across disciplines. They will also amplify the impact of the research through policy outreach and communications via traditional and social media and CPIP's website, identify and cultivate new research opportunities, develop and support activities that increase the cohesion of a research center that includes faculty across the university, promote the visibility of CPIP at UCI and more broadly across academia, and oversee administrative and grants support.

$72,000 - $95,000

Two years of experience in administration and coordination of research and/or policy related activities.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration, economics, public policy, statistics, political science, public health, or an allied field.
Knowledge of common organization and other computer application programs as well as experience in new media communications, social and digital media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogging, podcasting, etc.), including familiarity with online research analytics as well as basic scientific, social media and graphic design terminology and trends. Superior communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Analytical and critical thinking skills to correctly identify real and potential problems, advising management as required, and proposing effective strategic resolutions. Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Demonstrated ability to work and prioritize in a multi-project, deadline driven environment with attention to detail and follow through. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-faceted programs and projects. Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues. Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external constituencies. Experience designing and developing content for websites. Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
Complete understanding of and appreciation for population research and public policy. Demonstrated experience working with faculty and administrators within the UC system and with a diverse public outside the academy. Advance degree and experience in the aforementioned fields is preferred.
Special Conditions Required:
This is a 60%, career position, with guaranteed funding through June 30, 2023. Continued appointment is contingent upon receipt of formalized ORU status. Dependent on funding, center need and employee availability, the appointment percentage may increase beyond 60% . Some travel may be necessary in California and out of state. As driving will be required for this position, candidate must possess a valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain one as required by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Participation in the DMV Employee Pull Notice Program is required. This position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
