At Stony Brook Medicine the Graphic Designer plays an important role in executing our institutional branding and marketing communications. We're looking for a highly creative graphic designer to help strategize high-profile marketing campaigns that inform and inspire through visual storytelling, both in digital and print media platforms. Computer-aided technical proficiency and organizational skills are essential. This incumbent requires a thorough understanding of branding, creativity and design theory to execute continuity through a wide variety of communications for our extensive healthcare system.
Duties of a Graphic Designer may include the following but are not limited to:
Perform day-to-day projects with autonomy under the general direction of the Sr. Director of Communications and the Assistant Art Director.
Willingness to collaborate with Communications team members.
Strategize high-profile marketing campaigns with creativity and design expertise.
Able to vary style and layouts depending on the project.
Produce a wide variety of communications with technical expertise, especially in computer-aided for digital and print platforms.
Handle multiple projects with varying deadlines from concept to completion.
Manage work flow with technical accuracy and excellent organizational skills.
Able to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them into a design that connects.
Collaborate, brainstorm and strategize for a wide range of materials that may include advertisements, web pages, PowerPoint presentations, signage, internal communications, marketing materials, animated and digital graphics, and template creation.
Make recommendations for print specifications in consideration of project budget and lead time.
Keep current on evolving technology related to Mac capabilities.
A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or a Bachelor's degree in related discipline, plus seven years directly-related experience in computer-aided design.
In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a combination of education and/or directly related experience in computer-aided design to total ten years will be considered.
Proficiency with Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects - Mac platform.
Technical knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Master Page and Style Sheet creation for Mac and PC platforms.
Strong understanding of healthcare branding, social media digital advertising, animated graphics and environmental graphics, including signage.
15+ years in professional graphic design, preferably with a creative or marketing agency, specifically healthcare
In-depth understanding of design theory, color processing for print and digital platforms
Working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word templates
Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software
Focused and professional
Works well under pressure
