As part of the Learning Design and Technology (LDT) team within the Teaching and Learning Hub, the Learning Experience Designer consults with faculty and staff to envision an innovative future of education and help chart a realistic path for arriving there. LDT designs, develops, and supports solutions to provide meaningful, equitable, and inclusive learning, increased student engagement, and a smooth instructional experience. The team works on academic programs (MBA, MSx, PhD), as well as Executive Education and other public-facing programs.
As a Learning Experience Designer, you will apply instructional design methodologies to provide expertise and support in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. You will work closely with faculty, other learning experience designers, instructional technologists, media producers, and the Associate Director of Teaching and Learning Programs at the GSB's Knight Management Center. You will help foster the school's world-class learning by promoting the signature GSB learning experience and helping faculty excel in the classroom.
The successful candidate will be excited to collaborate with other team members in projects and consultations that support faculty in their teaching. In addition to demonstrating effectiveness in assessing learning needs and creative problem solving, you have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You are flexible with projects and willing to pivot if needs shift unexpectedly or with time.
Please Note: This position requires regular, on-site work at the Stanford GSB campus, but a full-time on-campus presence is not required for this role.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Uncover the unique teaching and learning needs specific to each course and or program.
Analyze learning goals and objectives to design, develop, and implement in person, online, and blended courses, programs, and activities according to instructional design principles and current research.
Advise faculty on key issues, including course management, assessment methods, delivery strategies, pedagogy, accessibility, and inclusion.
Collaborate with media production and technology development colleagues to support teaching and learning goals and enhance the student learning experience.
Drive teaching excellence through classroom observations, individualized coaching, and recommendations to faculty about teaching strategies and techniques.
Support the design, development, and delivery of workshops and presentations for faculty and staff on topics related to learning across different delivery modes such as online, blended, and in person.
Create faculty resources on teaching-related topics such as effective course development, pedagogy, and teaching best practices.
Respond to faculty questions and comments in a timely, service-oriented manner, and refer faculty to relevant resources and learning solutions as appropriate.
Draw on research and best practices from fields of learning, cognition, education and other relevant fields to inform the design of the learning experience. Stay abreast of educational technology research.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with faculty and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend high-impact learning solutions.
Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves learning.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
Demonstrated skills in project management.
Higher education or online education experience.
Classroom teaching experience.
Experience with online learning platforms and/or learning management systems.
Experience designing and writing learning content for in-person and/or online delivery modes.
Experience with content development processes.
Comfort developing learning material for a variety of management education topics, including quantitative or qualitative subject matter.
