Department of Medicine: Medical Genetics has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator.
The Research Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and assisting with research, and the coordination of a large national research project.
The Research Coordinator functions as facilitator with and communicator to project and client investigators, coordinates inter-institution and inter-departmental arrangements and agreements, attends to scientific needs and assures completion of all requirements to insure project success. The Research Coordinator reports directly to the Principal Investigator and heads a team.
The Research Coordinator will work with collaborating and client investigators and their institutions and with multiple UW departments (e.g., Office of Sponsored Programs, Human Subjects Division, UW TechTransfer, Grant and Contract Accounting) to insure timely and correct implementation, administration, progress and completion of research projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research Management (45%)
• Responsible for coordinating a large research project, with collaborating investigators and their institutions and with multiple UW departments (e.g., Office of Sponsored Programs, Human Subjects Division, UW Tech Transfer, Grant and Contract Accounting) to insure timely and correct implementation, progress and completion of research projects • Work with faculty leads in the development and implementation of research policies, procedures, data collection methods, strategies for data management and development and refining study procedures for recruiting, intervening, collecting and summarizing data as needed; write technical reports on the project data and data handling procedures. • Analyzes study data to develop responses to inquiries from collaborating and client investigators and institutions, funding agencies and UW departments • Identifies and independently implements corrective action to resolve and correct issues in order to complete research objectives • Recruiting and overseeing the recruitment of human subjects including working within the approved IRB for study methods. This position has a shared role in compliance.
Project Management (45%)
• Plan, attend and, participate in national and local calls and meetings; coordinate follow-up actions with stakeholders and initiate communication to meet study objectives. • Analyzes data and prepare complex information and materials in response to agency inquiries and compliance requirements. • Monitor project goals and timetables and facilitate completion of research and administrative activities within project timelines. • Serve as research project liaison, representing projects to client and collaborating investigators and institutions, funding agencies and UW departments. Prepare presentations and publications and/or assist PI’s. • Prepare required and requested reports for Principal Investigator, UW departments and funding agencies to ensure research project progress. Prepare progress reports for sponsoring agencies and other technical reports as needed. • Prepare Institutional Review Board status reports. Maintain regulatory compliance and reporting. Ensure that projects comply with all requirements of the University of Washington and the central IRB.
Publications Management (10%)
• Design, create and maintain data bases for the project. Post to specific web sites to support and facilitate completion of research project goals; maximize operational consistency across research projects. Manage the transfer of data across sites and maintain data security and restricted access to the data. Establish and implement data collection, and quality control procedures for the various projects and subprojects. Identify data operational issues, and/or problems and work directly with IT staff to resolve problems as they arise. Provide technical assistance to a research staff as needed. • Independently, and in collaboration with laboratory staff, update, maintain and troubleshoot project web sites. • Design, create, draft, written communications (e.g., newsletters, press releases, reviews, meeting minutes). Assist with manuscript preparation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline, communications, public administration, public health or a related field AND a minimum of two years of experience in scientific research and project management.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

•Excellent written and oral communication and relationship management skills Web experience •Excellent work ethic and strong organizational skills •Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) •Ability to independently set priorities and effectively handle interruptions •Ability, when necessary, to work under pressure and remain focused
DESIRED:
•Prior REDCap experience would be ideal but not required •Ability to work with different project management tools/software (Asana, etc)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
•Responsible to work varied and extra hours as needed to meet project deadlines and program needs. •Daily interactions with other team members, subject matter experts and stakeholders at all levels of the UW, other institutions and funding agencies •Infrequent evening and weekend travel to study meetings may be necessary •Possibility of 60-80% remote work. We would consider 100% remote work for exceptional candidate.
