Position Summary
Reporting to the Managing Director of the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate, the Senior Associate Director of Programs and Operations will lead and deliver communications, operations, and student programming initiatives, and will manage a variety of strategic projects for the Center in coordination with Managing Director and Co-Directors. The Senior Associate Director of Programs and Operations will play an important role in the overall administration of the Center, supporting budget planning and reconciliation, and reporting. The incumbent will provide direction and guidance to other members of the Milstein Center administrative staff as it relates to the core responsibilities outlined below. Partners with internal and external constituents on various initiatives to ensure strategic priorities are met. The Senior Associate Director of Programs and Operations will independently manage the Center???s website with support and guidance from the school???s communications department and will create and produce written content for external distribution and annual reporting. Lastly and importantly, the Senior Associate Director of Programs and Operations will lead and maintain the Center???s valued partnership with the student Real Estate Association and will support and deliver a range of student-initiated activities and events each year.
Responsibilities
Communications:
Responsible for leading and managing the Center???s overall communications strategy working with the Managing Director, to increase visibility and outreach initiatives to internal and external stakeholders and independently provides guidance, direction, and approval of all external communication from the Center to other members of the Milstein Center staff.
Directs the departmental communications calendar in coordination with the administrative team; manages the tone and ???voice??? of the Milstein Center brand, ensuring that it is reflected in all forms of communication and across social channels, and in balance with Columbia Business School???s overall brand and communication strategy, working in partnership with the Marketing and Communications department.
Develop and lead a social media strategy in coordination with other staff as required
Designs collateral, manages the distribution of digital content, produces video assets
Writes, develops, and edits content on behalf of the Center to be shared externally.
Serves as web manager for the Center???s website( https://www8.gsb.columbia.edu/realestate/) and CRM (Milsteincenter.org and CiviCRM) and a lead admin for cbsrealestatealumni.com; responsible for maintenance, any/all migration requirements, and regular updates.
Student Programing Events & Advising:
Serves as liaison and lead administrator to Real Estate Association on all student programming; coordinates with student leaders and designated staff or partners on all co-hosted and co-branded events and programs, inclusive of the Careers in Real Estate Workshop Series, Student Alumni Coffee Chats, Annual Real Estate Career Forum, Speaker Lunches, Panels, PPIL Programs, and other one-off events and programs developed with the club and/or at the discretion of the Managing Director. This involves topic/ content development and speaker brainstorming and outreach.
Advises the REA in coordination with Managing Director on REA domestic career ???treks??? and Chazen led international real estate study tours, and supports their planning and travel activities, ensuring alignment with school policies, and that the Milstein Center???s external and alumni industry relationships are handled with care. May be required to travel 1-2 times per year, as directed by Managing Director.
Operations & Administration:
Leads operational and administrative initiatives for the Center, inclusive of vendor contracts under review, department wide calendars, subscriptions, center resources and budget reconciliation with Managing Director, and others directly involved with various gift sources.
Supports donor stewardship initiatives as led and directed by Managing Director, in coordination with External Relations.
Supports and participates in overall Center event execution, and suggests general policies, procedures, guidelines.
Special Projects, Strategy & Planning:
Support Managing Director and Co-Directors in achieving the Center???s strategic goals and priorities by serving as a strategic liaison, offering suggestions, pathways, solutions, and problem resolution.
Lead special projects and communication initiatives as directed and on behalf of the Managing Director and Co-Directors of the Center.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree required. Advanced degree strongly preferred. Minimum 4-6 years related experience required.
Must have demonstrated experience in event planning and execution. Demonstrated experience writing, copyediting and content development necessary. Comfortable working knowledge and general facility of HTML + basic code (editing/ manipulation) to support the maintenance of the Center???s website, digital content, and digital assets such as newsletters, invitations, and reports. Must be a detailed, pro-active, flexible, and collaborative and have excellent inter-personal, and communication skills, and be confident in directing/ approving others work. Must exercise tact and discretion when interacting with faculty, administrators, leaders in the academy, in industry, and with students. Must be willing to learn new applications as needed and must be highly motivated and able to problem solve and work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to prioritize, multitask and proofread is essential. Occasional early mornings and late evenings required.
**A writing sample will be required**.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior higher education experience and/or experience advising or supporting students and/or faculty preferred. Prior management experience preferred. Demonstrated experience in the Real Estate sector, and/or a strong conversational interest in the field desired. Experience developing or supporting a social media strategy preferred.
