Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in education, educational psychology, instructional design, curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, or a related field. One year of full-time experience working at higher education institutions including but not limited to: (1) Experience in instructional design and curriculum management, and (2) Experience evaluating, selecting and using instructional technologies in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years of full-time experience in Instructional Design in health professions education, specifically medical education. In lieu of five (5) of related work experience, a PhD or EdD (or foreign equivalent) in Instructional Design or a related field. Knowledge in the application of adult learning theories curriculum and innovative instructional design methods. Experience with data analysis (both quantitative and qualitative). Project management.
Brief Description of Duties:
Reporting directly to the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, the Instructional Design and Evaluation Specialist will assist faculty with the integration of innovative educational technologies with pedagogy to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning in the LEARN curriculum of Renaissance School of Medicine. Areas of emphasis will include flipped classroom pedagogy, Web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional software and systems. This requires working closely with faculty, administrators, and staff to design, implement, and evaluate programs that serve the faculty across the SOM. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented team player who is able to work independently and has strong intellectual and analytical skills. The selected candidate will work directly with the Vice Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education. The Instructional Technology Specialist must have demonstrated leadership in promoting and supporting instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential for this role. The successful incumbent should have the ability to integrate innovative technologies with pedagogy. The Instructional Technology Specialist must have project management skills, including meeting deadlines and multitasking. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other team members is essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to problem solve, think critically, and be able to adjust in a fast-paced environment. Along with the ability to maintain harmonious working relationships and effectively address complex and sensitive administrative issues.
Instructional Design/Technology Support
- Engage and support the teaching faculty in the development and implementation of instructional design principles and pedagogical techniques to enhance teaching and learning in the School of Medicine.
- Consult with and support faculty in the development and coordination of active learning pedagogies, such Team-Based Learning (TBL), Problem Based Learning, Flipped Classrooms, and technology-mediated teaching and learning.
- Train and support teaching faculty in the use of instructional technologies, such as eLearning modules, iPads, iBooks, Echo360, learning management systems, audience response systems, electronic whiteboards, Web 2.0, etc.
- Collaborate with teaching faculty in the development of instructional teaching and learning materials/resources, e.g., iBooks, course primers, faculty guides, assessment rubrics, e-learning modules, etc.
- Assist teaching faculty with setup and management of the School of Medicine's curriculum database (CBASE).
- Assist teaching faculty with scheduling and reserving space for teaching activities.
Examination Support
- Guide teaching faculty with the setup and administration of computer-based exams and quizzes, e.g. ExamSoft
Data and Project Support
- Work with the Senior Education Specialist and Director of Assessment and Evaluation on data collection and management.
- Work with the Senior Education Specialist and Director of Assessment and Evaluation on activities that promote teaching, learning and assessment linked to educational strategies, instructional technology, and learning outcomes.
- Work with the Senior Education Specialist and Director of Assessment and Evaluation on curriculum related scholarly and educational quality improvement projects.
Web-Design and Management
- Work with our IT department to design, maintain and keep up-to-date the RSOM's UME and Student Affairs web pages.
- Other duties as assigned.
