OverviewAs part of a new partnership between the North Carolina Central University School of Library and Information Sciences (NCCU SLIS) and Princeton University Library, this position is only open to recent graduates of the NCCU SLIS program. Graduates from 2022, 2021, and 2020 are eligible.

Reporting to one of the Cataloging and Metadata Services (CaMS) department team leaders, with regular, one-on-one mentoring with the Assistant University Librarian for Metadata Services, the Cataloging and Metadata Fellow will be a vital member of CaMS. CaMS is a multidisciplinary group of talented individuals working collaboratively to support the teaching, learning, and research mission of Princeton University by providing efficient, thorough, and accurate access to the Library's holdings in a variety of formats and languages. In addition, CaMS is currently partnering with staff in other areas of the Library to identify and mitigate harmful language and descriptions in the Library’s catalog.
As a member of CaMS, you will work collaboratively with library colleagues to ensure discoverability of library materials in a variety of formats through the creation of bibliographic descriptions conforming to national and local standards. You will also perform authority control work as necessary to maintain database integrity and contribute authority records to the Library of Congress via the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO) of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC). In addition, you will participate in the reparative description and harmful language work being undertaken by the Library.

Its holdings include more than 7 million printed volumes, 5 million manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive collections of digital text, data, and images.
The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities.
ResponsibilitiesThis position will focus primarily on learning the skills and tools cataloging/metadata librarians use to support the research, teaching, and learning mission of an academic institution. This position will work extensively in OCLC Connexion and Alma (library services platform). Throughout the two year appointment, this position will be encouraged to explore different aspects of metadata creation and management.
- Use software applications and tools (e.g., OCLC Connexion or WorldShare, and/or MarcEdit) to enter and manipulate bibliographic data.
- Perform associated authority control work as necessary to maintain database integrity.
- Participate in professional activities, scholarship, and committee assignments within the Library, on campus, and in professional associations at a level to meet criteria for continuing appointment.
- Maintain current knowledge of national and international developments and trends in cataloging, metadata, and related areas.
Qualifications- Masters of Library Science or Masters of Information Science

- Demonstrated knowledge of, or interest in, metadata and metadata content standards plus tools (e.g., MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging), Resource Description and Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Classification (LCC), Alma Library Services Platform, and OCLC Connexion.
