Job Duties:
Technology assistance – teaching, research, faculty/student events and university procedures. Instructs and assists FLL faculty, students, student groups, and lab and dept.-hosted visitors in the operation of digital and audio-visual equipment and materials related to teaching, research, faculty/student events and university procedures, including but not limited to solutions to isolated, short-term needs and ongoing, long-term projects: such as presentations, data archiving, event documentation, development and maintenance of digital projects, and website, sharepoint and other media sites or digital products. In collaboration with other technological staff at ECU, seeks out, develops, and implements software, hardware and network solutions to existing and future needs.
FLL labs, spaces and equipment. Physically supervises spaces & coordinates the overall operation of computing, technology and multi-media equipment in the Foreign Language Resource Center and Lab Area, in the SocioLing Lab area, in the DISSH Lab area, in FLL faculty and staff offices, and in FLL classrooms. Maintains use logs, manages equipment requests and roll-outs, documents and oversees storage of equipment and troubleshoots technological equipment and connection issues with ITCS or other technologists both proactively and also as a response to documented complaints.
Placement and distance education. Administers, scores, monitors, troubleshoots, communicates and enters results for FLL placement exams. Works collaboratively with faculty/staff at ECU and at other UNC institutions to coordinate language placement testing for ECU students in languages not offered by ECU. Assists faculty and students with Distance Education course development and operation. Manages technology issues related to the UNC Language Exchange involving but not limited to institutional technology and communication connections, and instructional space needs.
Continuing professional development. Stays up to date with tech developments for MAC/PC operating systems, the proper use of copyrighted materials, new software and hardware applications relating to FLL instruction and other areas of interest to the department. Demonstrates increasing ability to analyze and assess potential application of new software, hardware and network solutions for faculty/staff/dept./college needs. Communicates this expertise in both 1×1 meetings and regularized group training offerings.
Active collaboration. Works collaboratively with FLL office staff to meet department needs, including but not limited to maintaining main office open from 8:00am-5:00pm, item surplus, property assignment sheets, equipment inventories, graduation ceremonies, and communication with ECU offices and programs as required. Responsibility for special projects for FLL and HCAS as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the position's role. Computer coursework may be substituted year-for- year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey level requires an additional six months experience. Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.

Organizational Unit Overview:
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (www.foreign.ecu.edu) is one of sixteen departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University. It is a diverse, research-active, and collegial unit that offers a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages and Literatures with seven concentration areas: French, French Education, German, German Education, Hispanic Studies, Hispanic Studies Education, and Global Studies; minors in French, German, and Hispanic Studies; a Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies, an advanced language and culture option in the Master of Arts in International Studies, and a Hispanic Studies teaching area in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). The Department offers Greek, Latin, Russian, and Japanese in support of Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences interdisciplinary minors in Classical Studies, Russian Studies, and Asian Studies, and concentrations in the Bachelor of Arts in multidisciplinary studies in Classics, Classical Civilization, Russian Studies, and Asian Studies. The Department also offers a variety of study abroad programs in Latin America and Europe.
