For more than twenty years, the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine have partnered with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) to manage a growing number of Collaborative Quality Initiatives (CQIs), which enable hospitals and health care providers across the state of Michigan to improve their value of care by pooling, analyzing, and acting upon data related to a specific area of care. This position aims to provide a central source of graphic support for CQI communications dedicated to increasing the visibility of the CQI portfolio and its achievements.
The multimedia design specialist will be responsible for developing and executing various design techniques and utilizing a variety of approaches to convey complex, healthcare topics in creative and concise visual formats. This position will design and create infographics, website and social media content, videos, digital and print brochures, fact sheets, and more for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
The position will administratively report to the CQI Portfolio Manager and functionally report to the CQI Communications Manager. This position will work closely with members of the CQI Operations team, CQI program managers and communicators at Michigan Medicine. The person in this role should be a motivated and experienced multimedia design specialist ready to support the advancement of the CQIs mission and vision.
The ideal candidate will have a portfolio of work that showcases visually engaging and innovative content and design.
50% Create multimedia deliverables for the CQI Operations (CQIO) office
- Design and deploy engaging multimedia content across multiple forms of media, such as print, web, video, social media, and PowerPoint
- Simultaneously manage multiple high-level projects; develop and administer project timelines/deadlines with internal customers and the Communication Manager
- Create and pitch multiple options for design direction for various projects
- Ensure adherence of all projects to CQI image and brand standards, maintaining consistency across communication platforms
- Conduct visual research and stay well-informed around graphic design best practices to find the best approaches for health and healthcare storytelling in multiple communication channels
- Regularly research best practices for graphics outreach in health and healthcare
- Review layouts for design and grammatical accuracy as well as prepare files for a variety of uses prior to publication
35% Provide graphic design support to the individual CQIs as directed by the CQI Communications Manager
- Produce multi-media content for CQIs
- Provide consultation and editing to individual CQIs for various design needs as directed
- Host multimedia training sessions for the individual CQIs (2-3/year)
10% Maintain project tracking and a history of all design-related projects as well as a library of branded assets
5% Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Design, Graphic Design, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent amount of education and experiences
- Minimum of 4 years of design experience, preferably within the healthcare industry.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design concepts and software including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and After Effects, and/or other animation software, and familiarity with digital photography.
- Proficiency with social media, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and others.
- Strong design portfolio displaying skills and abilities with examples and links to relevant works.
- Experience creating design projects for distribution across multiple communications platforms.
- An understanding of branding, marketing, and consumer behavior and the ability to apply that knowledge to design.
- Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, a collaborative working style, and flexibility involving having work edited by stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, take initiative, and work effectively under tight deadlines and changing project requirements.
- Ability to reliably attend virtual meetings.
- Master’s Degree
- Experience working in academic healthcare
- Experience with brand design and UI design
- Experience creating content for mobile devices
