The Senior Director of Faculty Affairs supports the activities of the Associate Dean for Faculty and the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement that are critical to envision, plan, define, and implement a successful faculty lifecycle management and support program for the Heritage College. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Faculty, major roles for this position include: 1) as an administrative coordinator, overseeing or supporting operations and human resources functions related to faculty recruitment, retention, promotion and other faculty lifecycle events; 2) providing leadership, direction and strategic vision for the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement using evidenced based approaches; 3) supporting and partnering with the Senior Director of Faculty Learning and Pedagogy on all matters within their portfolios, including researching, benchmarking, writing reports and communications, and gathering data; 4) supporting academic leaders and faculty at all career stages through a variety of programs contributing to a diverse, inclusive faculty community, wellness, and supportive work environment; 5) providing exclusive confidential counsel and serve as a resource to the Associate Dean of Faculty on all administrative matters; 6) engaging in and facilitating relationship building across other academic and administrative units at Ohio University; 7) acting as the Associate Dean of Faculty's representative to university offices and external partners as directed; and 8) performing other appropriate tasks and duties as determined by the Associate Dean of Faculty. Occasional in-state, regional and national travel is required.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Directs the daily operations of the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement and coordinates, assesses, and evaluates programs that support faculty advancement (e.g., onboarding, mentoring, promotion, tenure, and reappointment, and leadership training) across career stages and appointment types (i.e. tenure-line, teaching, clinical, etc.) informed by best practices. Supports the Heritage college faculty governance structure and activities. Supports diversity and inclusion initiatives for faculty in collaboration with the Office of Inclusion. Develops and implements leadership and wellness programs for faculty and academic department leadership. Creates and manages needs assessment processes as required, including distribution, evaluation, data collection, and analysis. Manage databases and websites. Identifies and tracks participation of Heritage College faculty in internal and external (to OU) faculty development opportunities, including those offered by the Office of Research and Grants, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Provost's Office. Develops and manages nomination process for Heritage College faculty for internal and external awards and recognition. Develops and maintains an Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement website and digital newsletter to promote opportunities for faculty and to highlight achievements. Identifies and assists with the preparation of program grants to facilitate faculty training. Facilitates all human resources issues for the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement; prepares and oversees operational and grant budgets; provides oversight of faculty development funding and requests; develops and maintains remote work plan for the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement; and develops and administers faculty incentive programs. Creates and facilitates workflows to improve relationships and build efficiencies. Manages data collection and the development of reports and processes for Heritage College and University accreditation. Identifies potential financial and operational problems and works with appropriate staff and units to develop and implement corrective strategies. Directs and provides oversight of staff recruitment and professional development within the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement. Reviews and approves Business Continuity Plans on an annual basis.
-Provides leadership, direction and strategic vision for the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement and resource allocation for the implementation of its faculty lifecycle management and faculty development activities in alignment with strategic priorities and policies of the office, college and university. Assists with the creation of policies and procedures for the Office of Faculty Learning and Advancement and those pertaining to faculty lifecycle management for the Heritage College.
-Provides exclusive confidential counsel and serves as a resource to the Associate Dean of Faculty on all administrative matters, often of a highly sensitive nature. Works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes and mitigate risks. Develops and edits communication on behalf of the Associate Dean of Faculty.
-Engage in and facilitate relationship building, and act as the Associate Dean of Faculty's representative to university offices and external partners as directed. Facilitate the development of agreements with key academic partners, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Academic Department Chairs, Heritage College leaders and administrators in the Office of Research and Grants, the Office of Medical Education, the Office of Medical Education Technology, the Office of Inclusion, the Chief Financial and Strategy Officer (CFSO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Provost's office, University offices of Human Resources, Finance, Legal Affairs, local and national government agencies, officials and organizations).
Minimum Qualifications:
-Master's degree in business, communications, education, health, public administration or related field
-6 years of experience in higher education administration with experience supporting academic departments & human resources processes and/or lifecycle management for faculty or higher education leadership experience in a faculty track (e.g., department chair or higher)with experience supporting shared governance
-3 years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications:
-Doctoral degree in business, communications, education, health or related field
-8 years of experience in higher education administration with experience supporting academic departments & human resources processes and/or lifecycle management for faculty or higher education leadership experience in a faculty track (e.g., department chair or higher)with experience supporting shared governance
-5 years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities
The successful candidate will also possess strong skills in the following areas: leadership, verbal and written communication, and analysis and problem solving. The leadership of the Heritage College (e.g. Associate Dean of Faculty, Executive Dean, Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education, CFSO, COO) relies on the information and recommendations from the incumbent. This position is critical to achieving the strategic goals of the Heritage College.
