Position Summary:
The Project Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing an innovative Puyallup Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court (JHWC). The Project Coordinator will work directly with internal tribal agencies and the Tribal Court System on an ongoing basis to create and enhance the JHWC program and policies for service delivery, in an effort to increase public safety and community wellness.
JHWC will be a new program designed for youth in early contact with the justice system and/or at risk of being arrested for low-level non-violent violations due to behavioral health and substance abuse issues, including opioid misuse. Participants will engage with community-based case management and wellness resources. The Project Coordinator will work under the direction of the Children and Youth Services Director (or designee) to cooperatively develop and implement case plans that promote sobriety and positive mental health; and reduce the number of youth adjudicated in the general court system, including enhanced diversion activities. The JHWC system development will integrate effectively with similar emerging services, including a Family Healing to Wellness Court. The Coordinator will engage closely with cultural practices such as GONA and Healing of the Canoes to reduce harm to the individual and the community. A team approach will be utilized and may include judges, attorneys, probation, law enforcement, treatment providers, educational and vocational services, and other partners. In addition, the Coordinator will engage directly with tribal elders, traditional healers, and other culturally-appropriate resources to promote participants’ healing and reintegration into the tribal community.

Development and implementation responsibilities include the following and other related duties as assigned:
