Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Processes digital forensic evidence for law enforcement agencies investigating criminal offenses in Monroe, Bartholomew, Brown, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Marion, Morgan, Orange, Owen, and Washington Counties.
Supervises assigned personnel, including an Indiana University Police Department detective and student forensic examiners.
Establishes and maintains digital forensic procedures for the unit; establishes and maintains chain of custody and evidence integrity standards.
Enters and reviews data on all cases submitted to the unit.
Ensures compliance with Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC) grant.
Reports unit activities to the Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney.
Assists prosecutors with preparation and presentation of evidence as needed; testifies as an expert witness when necessary.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required by law.
General Responsibilities
Provides a high level of operational leadership and coordination of cyber forensics activities for the division; provides direction and guidance on escalated situations.
Establishes cyber forensics strategies and planning for department, provides guidance and direction and ensures adequate staff resources.
Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
Reviews and analyzes forensic activity reports to identify trends and track progress; creates and implements strategies designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations in a variety of enforcement areas; makes recommendations to public safety leadership; ensures compliance with federal, state, local institution and police department policies.
Works with division chief of police and deputy chief of police to develop departmental policies and procedures as well as long range strategies/plans; serves on various university and local/state law enforcement committees.
Prepares and serves non-criminal documents; contributes to court proceedings, administrative hearings, and/or quasi-judicial proceedings.
Oversees response to emergency calls and leads in initiating appropriate actions.
Qualifications
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
High school diploma or GED and 8 years of cyber forensics experience that includes 4 years in a supervisory/leadership role; OR
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of cyber forensics experience that includes 3 years in a supervisory/leadership role.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field.
University law enforcement experience.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role frequently requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and communicate effectively. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the working environment; handle or operate objects, controls, or tools listed above; ascend/descend ladders or stairs; position self to move at lower levels; and discern scents. The role requires the ability to lift and/or move more than 165 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and detect how far away an object is. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is externally grant funded. Continuation past December 31, 2022 will be contingent on renewed funding.
